In reply to <a href="https://www.mikerindersblog.org/friday-regraded-being-192/#comment-269670">Balletlady</a>.

Well, Balletlady, you've done your research on safe houses, that's for sure. I get it on everything and agree.

So the solution is not an an official Sanctuary but a number of private homes with owners willing to take these people in - for a while.

As to "finding them jobs" I don't see that as necessarily part of the deal. We are talking, after all, about ex-Sea org members. These people will have been used to working a minimum of 60 hours a week.

They will have been habituated to an extremely regimented, disciplined life. They may not have official work experience or job training, but ONE thing they'll DEFINITELY understand and be VERY comfortable with is the concept of working hard, long hours! What we out here in normal society would consider hard menial work with low pay will be like a VACATION for them with extraordinary pay.

They'll find jobs doing SOMETHING while they stay in someone's home being fed, clothed and housed for free.

Nobody's going to pump their lungs so they can breathe.
Give them a bed and some food and some peace and quiet, and quiet understanding, and support with transportation, and navigating the system to get themselves established as working members of society, and let them figure out their OWN lives.

If they have the guts to blow the Sea Org, or the fortitude to withstand the gruelling pressure of routing out properly, then they have what it takes to figure out their own lives.

Unless they money, or have relatives or children or friends who'll take them in, the elderly, disabled ex-Sea Org who leave or get booted out for medical conditions will have to go into public nursing homes, just like everyone else in this country who is poor, old, disabled, family-less and friend-less.

Decades ago two young women we knew got themselves a "hot dog truck". They did ok locally, but decided they'd hit "the big city".

Well, they parked quite near a well establish food truck whose owner was NOT happy about having competition. These young ladies sold only hot dogs, soda, chips etc. The OTHER food truck owner was selling many other options in the food range but NOT hot dogs.

This food truck owner warned them about parking their hot dog truck where it was...in what was back then & might or might not be "the mob territory". They left their truck parked there a few nights in a row as they travelled back and forth from their home. . One day as then arrived at where they'd had their truck parked for two week, they found their truck GONE, not a trace.

The Police were called & would not do anything to help them because they were NOT licensed to sell food in that area. The truck was never found despite their visit to the police impound area. Seems the food truck owner who'd worked that corner for years, "didn't know a thing".....nice Italian fella.

In reply to <a href="https://www.mikerindersblog.org/friday-regraded-being-192/#comment-269483">Skyler</a>.

I looked in to that myself locally. It's a major task to get "approval" to run anything like a "safe house". There are restrictions on where it could be i.e. business or residential. Many people do NOT want anything like that in "their neighborhood" as in "NIMBY "Not In My Back Yard". Getting approval for a women's domestic violence shelter took a good long time here.

There is also an issue with what might be consider "transient people" coming and going all hours of the day and night & having numerous people "floating in an out" or simply hanging around all day & not working. The other issue would be their "Blow Drill Team" coming around an harassing the neighborhood property owners.

There would be restrictions on how many people, room size, health inspections for safety such as meeting fire codes, wiring plumbing, heating/ventilation, bathrooms for number of people, equipment in kitchen & food safety. INSURANCE in case someone falls on the property or there's a fire etc. Add to that the cost of beds, dressers, pillow cases, sheets, blankets, towels, wash clothes, & the need for a washer and clothes dryer, pots/pans, dishes, silverware, bake ware, cookie sheets, cake pans, all kinds of kitchen utensils, furniture for the entire house like kitchen table, sofa, chairs.

The other task would be finding these people jobs with their limited education & work history. Transportation to employment isn't easy either if the community has no bus or taxi service, and then there is the MONEY ISSUE to keep all of it going. WHERE is the money to come from....the IRS sure isn't going to pick up the tab. Got to have a ton of money & get approval to even begin something like that....

Add to that the cost of as noted the insurance, heat, water, electric. general repairs and FOOD. For health reasons the kitchen would need to pass muster if it's to be used as a safe house...can't prepare feed people in a dirty unhealthy kitchen

I may be a side grandmother soon. Two of our daughter’s partners just had a baby.

Wow. I never thought I’d be a grandmother of any kind. I thought “aunt” would be the most I could do. Suddenly, this year, I find out I’m a mom, not just a stepmom, and I find out I’m likely to be a side grandma, and it’s not even May yet! A side grandma would be a cool thing to be.

Also, I think I’ll change my name here to something more amusing and apropos of the main subject: Abby Ration.

Hey Skyler,
I like your idea.
A Sanctuary for blown Sea Org members.
We could call it "SP-Anon" :)
Or
In that Sea Org members who leave the Sea Org for ANY reason are labeled "DBs" (short for "Degraded Beings") we could call the place "DB-Anon" :)

What do you think?
