Back in the day, my friend, (NOT a Scientologist, never a Scientologist, no religion at all) told me that jer 4 year old daughter, Annie (not the child’s name) would, from time to time, mention a friend she “used to have”. This friend had a name that Annie would mention, an unusual, French female name which for the life of me I cannot now recall. I had them over for dinner and asked 4 year old Annie it. “Your mama told me about _____,”, I said. “You and she were good friends”. Annie nodded in a matter of fact way. “Where is she now?”, I asked. casually. Annie held my gaze for a moment and then turned away and looked down. “She’s gone”, she said, mildly. Make of that what you will. I have no idea and no axe to grind about it either.
