For whatever its worth, here’s what I did back in the day, that worked fairly well and kept me sane:

I had 2 phone numbers and 2 separate flip cell phones.

One cell # and flip phone (the actual device, mind you) was the Scientology – all things Scientology line – any and all Scientology-related calls. There were few texts in those days.

The other number and flip phone was for business, personal and everything else not Scientology-related. THIS was the LINE I LIVED on. This was the number I answered (had to answer always) for business. And then personal calls too of course. I knew all the numbers of everyone who called me personally. So I lived on this phone.

The Scientology phone was mostly shut off with a very friendly and polite voice mail message. Almost never did I answer this phone. But it “rang” all day without me having to hear it. Sometimes when I was feeling evil I would have on vibrate and I’d listen to it buzzing all day while I didn’t pick up.

Every other day or so I’d empty out the messages on the Scientology phone and maybe respond to one or two of them. Then again maybe I wouldn’t.

Many calls were from org people REconfirming me for an event. I was already confirmed but they’d have people calling (and calling and calling and calling) to REconfirm me for the event. (Not only me, btw. They did this with everyone. Incredibly annoying and time wasting but that’s what they would do; confirm, reconfirm, re-reconfirm, etc., etc. True.)

My business was such that I lived on the phone. Now its more texting and email but back then it was still the phone.

If I had allowed it I would have been on the phone all day with Scientologists wanting or needing something. I would have gotten nothing done. I didn’t have a secretary to screen my calls. I did everything myself back then.

The Scientology Only phone cost me $50 per month, beginning a month or so after 9/11/01 and continuing until I left, roughly 10 years later. $600 per month X 10 =$6000.

Well worth it. I attribute no small measure of my continued mental and physical health to having had all Scientology calls shunted to that separate line AND phone.

I could have had 2 numbers on the same flip phone but I didn’t want that.

Psychologically, I wanted – NEEDED to know that the other number was PHYSICALLY separate from the number I lived on. I kept it with me, mostly shut off, but sometimes buzzing angrily and continually in my purse. Whether or not it was on depended upon my mood. Mostly it was off and I heard nothing.

That was my solution to unending phone calls. After I left I experienced no small pleasure in cancelling that phone account!

You know, I have always enjoyed conversing with you.

But as far as the current topic under discussion, I must admit thaht I just have nothing to offer. It is real clear that you are absolutely right. My idea was just no good at all in the face of a pack of rabid dogs who get the scent of just about anything.

But there has to be something that can be done to throw these beasts off the track. Problem is, the only things I can think of are extremely illegal. They are all crimes that will get people life in prison – at the very best.

I must resolve myself to the conclusion that Mike and Leah have found the winning approach. By constantly whispering in the ear of the public just how dangerous and cruel this terrible scam treats the world, the best approach is to just let the public “melt away” until absolutely zero people have any interest in getting involved with these monsters.

But it is wonderful to know that someone here (I mean you by the way) has the winning strategy in mind how to defeat these monsters.

Can you please explain to me how study works ? My understanding is that in the sea org you are given time each day to study which is the exchange for the work you perform. I believe you get a few hours at the start of the day for study and after that you begin to do work. Is study optional ? Do people not fully take up the offer to study and if not why not ? Given the choice of studying or working tedious jobs for long hours i would take the study otherwise you would be adding hours to your days labor.

Whats the book about ? Autobiography ?

Seriously, though; here’s what would happen if someone said they’d be receiving a tax refund “in June” and would they loan you the money in the interim:

1) They would loan nothing; not a brass farthing, not a plug nickel, not a red cent, and,
2) The phone calls, emails, texts and snail mail letters would increase TEN fold. They’d be on you like ducks on a June bug if you’ll pardon the pun for YOU to “make it go right” to make the donation NOW. They’d be up your you-know-what for YOU to figure out how it could be done immediately, for YOU to think of people who would front the money right away for you to pay back, etc. etc.

Skyler, have you ever met a chocoholic? I used to be one, and can still relapse if I allow my blood sugar to go too low. Someone who can’t eat ONE chocolate cookie or one or two pieces of choc candy because after having tasted ONE, the whole box MUST be eaten? Do you have a concept of this principle?

Ok, now, apply this principle to a staff member who gets the merest WHIFF of a hint that MONEY is DEFINITELY on the horizon for a prospect.

Just like the box of cookies sitting there that can be eaten gradually later; just like the box of candy that is THERE and WILL be eaten, only just not all at once right now – no! No no no no no!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no future; there is no past; there is only NOW.

The candy must be eaten NOW.

The money must be donated NOW.

And to that end, you will be inundated with communication. OMG, if they KNOW there will be money coming in…you are finished! Slit your throat. You’re done.

Loosing my Religion: Absolutely, those little guys, in a conference room, I think they are depicted, attending a meeting. Others wondering, “What happened to… (anything that used to be there)?” ‘Til they realize, these little gray-skinned guys are consuming everything. The hosts for the meeting cannot keep up with their consumption.

Bill got it. They got nothing from me, after 15 years of staff the game was over. No room for crapology and no sense.
