It might be fun to have people check the three event hotels a day or two before the event to see if they have rooms available. The Delphi has 207 rooms. Loews Hollywood has 628. And the Hilton Checkers has 193. Research shows that the current downtown LA hotel occupancy rate is around 72%. So that means that there are a total of 288 rooms that are likely to be available at these three hotels above and beyond the 72% that will be booked in the ordinary course of business. That means that the recommended hotels are likely to hold no more than 500 Scientologists who are traveling to this event. Of course, people are free to stay anywhere and there are 100,000 hotel rooms in the LA metro area to choose from. But if there are tons of rooms available two days before the event, that probably means that the campaign to fly people in isn't going all that well.

Second, the problem with holding this event at the Shrine rather than at a hotel ballroom or convention center is that you can't change the size or layout of the room if you're having trouble filling seats. The last thing you want at an event like this, which is a major event for "the world's fastest growing religion" is to show that you've got empty seats. They were able to adjust the tent size, seat spacing and stage size in the tent at the recent UK IAS event to cover the lack of attendees.

The Shrine holds about 6,300, of which about 2,700 are on the main level. The balcony holds about the same number, and there are boxes that hold another 300+. So Scientology has to fill the entire lower level or people are going to wonder if something is wrong. The cognitive dissonance of Dave talking about how people are flocking to Scientology while he's looking at an auditorium with hundreds of empty seats is going to be noticed. They can probably get away with not filling the balcony, but they absolutely have to fill the main level.

I wonder if they're losing the ability to bus in staff from around the LA area to fill seats. With the recent defection of Mitch Brisker at Gold and the ongoing losses of staff, they might be concerned about people blowing if they're brought out of isolation to mingle with mere public. Also, it won't be a good look if public who are wearing their Sunday best are seated next to Sea Org drones who are in threadbare, shabby civilian clothes. If I am a rank-and-file public and I'm surrounded by elderly staffers rather than my peers, I may not think about it consciously, but I would eventually figure out that something is off.

I just had to tell this story: I remember the insanity of management targets re event attendances. We were once ordered/targeted, back in the 90's, to have 200 at our local org event. I believe 3 showed up, along with a few disheartened staff. What was really wild was that we no longer even cared, as with all management targets, they were just ludicrous.

That night, though, two Sea Org inspectors arrived to view our attendance. imagine 100 chairs with 3 attendees. It was all such insanity at that point that the inspectors didn't care either. They knew it was all just BS too.

I think the targets these days are just PR stunts...ordering 100 to show somehow means to them, and their devotees, that 100 showed, despite what is right before their eyes. Delusion can run quite deeply

I don't remember the cult having too much trouble filling a large venue when Hubbard dropped his meat sack and area scientologists were ORDERED to attend. I was at Orange County org at the time and it wasn't too difficult to make the trek up I-5 to LA.

With the self reported vast and unprecedented expansion of the cult since that time it seems to be harder and harder for them to fill just about any venue. Yet, at the same time the unwashed masses of WOGS fill sports stadiums by the hundreds of thousands every weekend in SoCal and pay good money to do so.

For some reason, even the highly dedicated OSA net nannies reading this and other anti-cult blogs can't seem to catch a clue that they are being lied to. Or, maybe they think the hordes of 'OTs' out there are just watching 'exterior' to the venue so they don't have to go to the trouble of getting their MEST-y meat sacks to LA.
