I see so many people in this thread commenting positively on this Sagan quote, all the while dancing around the identity of the one person at whose feet it most deserves to be laid, L. Ron Hubbard. It seems to me that if you don't see that, you're still in the bamboozle. Ah, well, disillusion takes time, and don't I know it . . .

Yes Dan, I you and nearly all of us commenting on Mike's site have spilled quite a few tears and yes, you are correct in stating about the good old days - they did exist. Things could be eventually corrected at least, as well and auditors were made and PC audited. No more now. But we are doing "our bit" here at least in trying to recover it from the ravages of this insane management and the bought and paid for cohorts. I wonder how long the OSA agents and not-so-heavy Kool Aid drinkers "under the radar" having to read these blogs survive on staff and in the Church? I expect the attrition rate is quite high and so we are doing something at least. The Debbie Cook email was apparently a very successful action in waking people up as is this site I believe.

So almost half of the comps are OTC members in Pasadena. That says to me that these die hards are most of the people doing services, many older OTs, who have no business being on the how to fund raise course. They really are on life support. I like the walk of shame too, instead of a big "NOT ACTIVE" they just leave it blank but the poor creatures KNOW they are in the shitter. The comment that the most successful actions were playing the gag2 release struck me also. They are so deluding themselves thinking that gag2 doesn't have any correlation to the fact that the org is empty. Here's some math for you otc'ers: Gag2 + insane "leadership" + rampant declares of special persons (aka people who speak) + domino effect disconnection = EMPTY ORGS.

Key stats not reported here, but that are certainly sky-rocketing...

#hours spent by OTC members thinking "WTF???" and thinking VERY disaffected thoughts, wondering how they are going to survive another OTC meeting with any of their remaining sanity even partially intact.

#tears spilled by former active Scientologists from better days* when considering that "it's all come to THIS???" (I know it's NEVER been perfect and there was always some chicanery going on, but I still feel there were -- relatively speaking -- some "good old days" when there was more attention on delivery than just income and buildings. When Paid Completions was the most important stat... before '78 certainly.)

Their time expenditures might mean that the members are actually up to their ears or more in debt and are working a lot of overtime to meet it. The way it worked in our org was the committee would meet for one session a week and then often come back in to call for event confirms. They'd be regularly regged at their home and tried to avoid that by disappearing to go out with kids and such.

Staff was no picnic, but there was also hell to pay as OTC members.
