That’s exactly what I though ; “odds” is the applicable word , and “100,000 to 20” , the correct expression meaning that for each 100,000 individuals only 20 of them would not attempt to “destroy” or “alter” the “workable” Tech (any Tech).

Unfortunately in the world of “Standard Tech” , if it doesn’t make sense, it is you who have the M/Us in the materials as LRH was the “perfect” grammarian. When I was still in Scn orgs like 16-17 years ago , I used to be (still am, very much) a very applied student , always attempting to dissect and digest every piece of knowledge. When you solve each and every exercise in a Calculus and Physics textbook , spending sometimes a whole day solving one until finally worked out , glibness is not part of your character. But the Sups didn’t agree with the amount of time that it usually took me to cover the whole Checksheet. So I was constantly haunted by M-4s which almost never found M/Us but rather many disagreements. Fortunately for me , at the Mission they didn’t know about the “Disagreement Check” Tech.

My disagreements were that I used to stumbled across many grammatical errors that resulted in the sentence not making much sense as redacted. And no matter how much “Word Clearing” I did , I still disagreed with it. The Sups, however ,always used the best tool that a Sup possesses : The Service Fac. They just left me alone as an incorrigible student. There were also many instances of LRH not explaining clear enough many technical procedures (a VERY usual habit of his) , but upon querying the Sups (a deadly sin in Scn) about it, they just said, “Go and find your M/Us before I give you a Pink Sheet” ; to which I usually “obeyed” to.

Anyone (not a KSW fanatic, mind you) who have studied the OT materials and the C.C. knows what I am talking about, specially OT III ; it is a nightmare! And what about the NOTs series as to a clearly laid out series of orderly steps ? My God! , how can anyone supposedly knowing the Barries to Study (LRH, I mean) can be such a lousy teacher ? Cause he WAS a lousy teacher, all right. The students having Qs on those levels are a LOT. But I guess that my Indie friends will just think that I have “M/Us on the materials”. The truth is that LRH miserably failed to explain “dummy style” , you know, many technical procedures. He was very disorganized as a “research” man.

Usually for each hour of a LRH lecture you only have 10-15 mins of actual descriptions of technical concepts and procedures and the rest is just pure gibberish and historical “dissertations”. A friend of mine called that, “Mental Diarrhea” , and correctly so. But these are just “natter” or at best, “M/Us” manifestations from me , according to robitized KSE fanatics. Well, it seems that I am “Walking M/U” then.

This is very likely an error in word choice – “percentages” should be changed to “odds”. Phrased that way it makes sense, because odds require two numbers to specify and this is normally done in the way Hubbard does: “[number] to [number]”.

If we do change “percentages” to “odds”, the ordering of the numbers is technically CORRECT for gambling odds: gambling odds are odds AGAINST, so very short odds indicate a high probability. However it would be more common to state this as “100,000 to 20 on”.

It would also have been clearer to reduce the fraction (“5000 to 1 on”), but that is a minor point.

Oh, that is rich! Practicing not-is-ness probably to keep stats up and stay out of ethics! Either that or some joker thought he/she was following admin tech precisely and no one dared question.

Wow Joe, that was an excellent post indeed!!! I just love it when someone has a very free mind to evaluate things for himself , and arrive at sensible explanations.

I only want to add to this already marvelous post of yours that w/out an actual VPF, nothing can keep expanding as the demand for the product markedly decreases with time as it happened with Scn. It not only was that LRH violated his own Admin Tech , but auditing Tech itself became unworkable and even destructive if compared with the advertized results. If Tech would have produced just 75% of the advertized results , even with “squirrel” Admin Scientology would have expanded. I mean , just the “Word of Mouth” would have been enough with all the Good Will resulting from it. The VFPs were flawed to begin with. That caused the decay.

Interesting points and it rings true. I recall people leaving the Org, heading for L.A. to do the upper bridge. They would finish, come home and move on. You wouldn’t hear from them again. It was alright. They did not have to be a “member” of anything either, or maintain a membership to maintain their friends and family. People were very happy for them to get up the bridge and finish. They were allowed to complete a cycle of action.

Now they have to report stats of what they have done for David Miscavige. And they are never permitted to complete a cycle of action. If they do, it is just invalidated and they are ordered to do it again, and again. You can only complete your cycle of action with the CofS if you walk out the door and don’t look back.
