If one reads all the way to the footnotes in the 2003 Louisiana bar disciplinary decision that disbarred L.D. Sledge, one comes upon this interesting tidbit. Part of his downfall was being absent from the office for months at a time during the late 1990s, leaving his non-attorney staff to do everything (i.e, unsupervised practice of law), and HERE'S the reason why:

"During this time, respondent attended Church of Scientology retreats in Florida and authored a novel, which was published in late 1998.   The exact amount of time respondent was away from the office is disputed.   There is testimony in the record indicating respondent was out of the office for six months in 1996, six months in 1997, and three months in 1998.   In contrast, respondent testified that he was absent in 1996 anywhere from one to three months, in 1997 for one to two months and in 1998 for six weeks.   It is undisputed respondent would often periodically come into the office for a few days after being gone for several weeks so as to handle pending matters."

In other words, Brother Sledge seems very likely to have become enmeshed in those very prolonged Bridge and auditing and sec checking procedures at Flag, of which one has read so often, and to have been stuck in Clearwater while his staff was handling his entire caseload back in Louisiana. Chalk up another blown career to the CoS.

You know, I had about 15 different "BULLSHIT!" comments come to my mind as I read all that crap. What finally occurred to me was that since the last time I "donated" money to that filthy organization maybe, what, 10 years ago?- I've been applying some _real_ finance policy to my life.

It occurred to me that if my old reg found out that today, after a lot of work and careful planning, I could write that bitch/prick a check for 6 figures, and not go into debt, and in fact not have it even affect my life much, he/she would piss his/her pants and send a dozen SO cocksucking pieces of shit over here to drain every penny I've managed to put aside for my life, to put into that piece of shit Miscavige's Scotch Fund. With some real "FP" I've managed to put aside some dough for fun, and for my old age.

I have no debt. I'm telling you, walking down the street with serious cash in the bank and owing nobody nothin' feels pretty damn good. For the price of a shitty IAS trophy, I have some fabulous options. It took some work, but all I had to do was to stop giving anything to that rotted "church." I'm just lucky I got out during my earning years.

But what I've put aside is peanuts, if you ask some fucking reg. Maybe I could be a Patronious Bullshittus! Boy, how good would I feel!!?? Not as good as I would feel on a First Class flight to, say, Rome, or Munich, or New York City, to spend a week or a month or a year soaking up the culture and art and music. And still having a secure retirement.

But Fuck You, Scientology, and Eat Shit, Miscavige. You're not seeing, ahem, "One Thin Dime" of my little fund. It's peanuts to you, but priceless to me.

Maybe I'll take a trip to London next year. Or buy myself a camping trip to Monument Valley. Beignets in Paris?? Oh, the possibilities! Or, gee, I could become a "Civilization Builder" and get a little piece of paper!

Gawd, if only my reg knew! Ha ha ha.
