“[Scientology leader David Miscavige] is holding our downtown hostage. We can give him what he wants but once we do, he will stab us in the back again. I argued Miscavige has to come through first before we sell him that property but I am now out of the way,” Bunker said.

Well, Scientology taking over and buying up downtown Clearwater turning it into a base of operations, hence a ghost town bit by bit over time sure answers that question. ‘Fortress Scientology’ is a fearful thing and a very real threat to any community. Don’t let them take your city off you, they are Fabian in nature and relentless in their pursuits. They regard anyone not a Scientologist as a threat and something to be silenced or removed. Put simply, the organization known as the Church of Scientology has a religious facade but is a cold-hearted dictatorship, don’t let them set up shop in your neighborhood.
Definition of Carpetbagger:
“An outsider who pretends to be an insider is a carpetbagger; he’s a person who tries to take advantage of a group by joining it only for his own personal benefit. Northerners who moved south during Reconstruction in the 1860s and 70s were the original carpetbaggers, named for their suitcases.”
Mark Bunker is the only real hope Clearwater has of regaining its integrity as a progressive place to live, work and play by holding Scientology accountable for their egregious encroachment of Clearwater and its citizen’s liberty.
