Anyway, yes, I absolutely agree with you now that I realize you were talking about kids who disconnected and treated their parents like shit simply because the parents left and spoke out.

To answer your other question: I am extremely blessed to have been born to the most incredible parents. My two older sisters and I had the most loving, nurturing and wonderful childhood. I think of my parents as “angels” because they’re such good people — not only to our family but to everyone they know.

Having such amazing parents makes me even more sad and angry at parents who disconnect from their kids over something as stupid as a so-called “religion”.

Katherine. When I became an adult I broke with my parent who was a scamologist… I know many who did once they were adults.

As for the Brainwashing Manual itself, it should be mentioned that there are several versions. The changes are minor but it might cause some confusion. The Lermanet copy, above, is the original and correct 1955 version, and features an introductory “Editorial Note” by “Charles Stickley.” (The non existent Stickley, of course, is Hubbard).

In 1956, a con man named Kenneth Goff took the Manual and modified it slightly, removing the Stickley “Editorial Note” and replacing it with his own. This is the version most commonly used by some political clubs that, to this day, firmly believe that Hubbard’s faux “Russian textbook” is the real deal.

There’s also a 1968 version of the Manual, published by the American St. Hill Organization, that replaces the word “Dianetics” with “Church of Scientology.”

There is further information in the 2001 Parallels addressing the background of the Manual. This is useful, mainly, when encountering Independent Scientologists (who still believe Hubbard’s explanations re. the Manual), and when encountering dubious “religious scholars” who insist upon the authenticity of the Manual.

No disrespect taken. I’m sorry you’re upset. I can look from the viewpoint you’re looking from and I respect it. That said,

I do believe we choice and become cognizant of that at some point. We are and were, each, someone’s child. We are not our parents. Our parents are not us. Children are not their parents. Each of us is an individual, with a choice.

Many kids born into Scientology rejected it, even though they had parents and siblings who were in. Stories abound on the internet from those who decided to leave including kids who from infancy knew nothing but Scientology.

.As for the children who turned their backs on their disobedient parents, who are, after all, PEOPLE – INDIVIDUAL BEINGS WITH HEARTS AND MINDS just like THEY are individual beings with hearts and minds – these disobedient parents who REFUSED to be untrue to themselves despite ENORMOUS pressure and threats of Fair Game and Disconnection – you BET I believe that they disrespected their parents ENORMOUSLY .

They made hugely wrong choices and caused their parents ENORMOUS pain and suffering. These people do NOT deserve this treatment from their children, and these children, if and/or when they come crawling back (hopefully when the have had their own realizations but worse case scenario when the cult folds and the have nowhere else to go an need money) these “kids” (pushing 30 r 40) will, or should, jolly well kiss their parents feet that the door is even being opened for them.

And sure, yes, no argument, absolutely, the parents put them there there and the parents were utterly misguided to do that BUT when those same parents who placed their kids in the cult learned the TRUTH about the cult THEY SPOKE OUT.

They said, “Whoa! Wait a minute. What’s going ON here? This is NOT what I signed up for! This is NOT what I want my child or ANYONE I love exposed to!”

They spoke out, at GREAt risk, at tremendous COSTt to themselves. They saw what they saw and drawing on their own integrity and self honesty said, “No Way., this is NOT OK.” Against all odds, they observed what the observed and didn’t lie about it.

And SOME of their kids listened.

And others said, effectively, “Fuck you, Dad, Mom. You’re nothing. You’re an SP and I want nothing to do with you, ever again.”.

Well, this was a VERY bad choice on their part and there’s no escaping that they’re going to pay for it, no matter how their parents try, out of love and loneliness, to shield them from their own bad choices.

These parents MEANT WELL.These parents regret what they did DEEPLY. They suffer for it EVERY MINUTE. Parents make mistakes – severe mistakes sometimes. With the best of intentions, usually. Are they suppressives? I think not.

Any pushing 30 or 4o year old who cannot grasp this concept STILL has a LOT of growing up to do, no matter their chronological age..

Every “kid” who sided with the cult and judged his or her parents as evil sociopaths to be forever shunned will one day recoil in horror from what they did, will understand the enormity of this crime and will KNOW in his or her heart of hearts that he/she does NOT deserve respect from the loved ones they hurt by their bad choice.

Katherine, did you ever wonder whether you actually LIKED your parents – not as parents, but as PEOPLE? Of course, they’re you’re blood, your family and there is that kind of love, but do you actually like them? I think everyone has wondered that, am I wrong? Well, I think that PARENTS have the right to wonder the same right to wonder about their grown child. “Do I really LIKE this person?”

But this is just me. Sorry if my opinions (which all of the above are) are disturbing. I do believe that respect is a 2 way street in relationships and it isn’t automatic and it can be gained and it can be lost..
