Terrific comment, Alco. I completely agree with all of your points. WTH IS in my opinion a common sense moral and ethical code and following its maxims would improve a lot of lives.

The flaw in the cult’s reasoning with regard to the efficacy of WTH is that people enduring cataclysmic events are in no shape to READ.

Whether its a natural disaster like a hurricaine or flood or a tornado, or a mass shooting or bombing, etc., they’re enduring, they’re not going to be helped by being given a booklet.

Most likely they’re in shock, or physically destitute, hungry, ill and possibly they’ve lost loved ones and are reeling emotionally as well as mentally and physically.

In brief, they’re not what Scientology calls “studentable” y’know?

I’d like to share something I just read on Quora in response to a question about cults and their leaders.

“Compulsive liars should not be feared. They can be ignored and thus do no harm. Compulsive believers should terrify you.”

That pretty much says it, right?

Like many people I have read WTH and as far as personal advice goes it is a fair book of maxims that if followed can help an individual do better in life. The problem is when these same people can be convinced that flooding a city or a state or a war torn nation with booklet versions of this book will somehow magically erase whatever malady that given area is suffering from. Just run through the streets giving out thousands of copies of The Way To Happiness and SHAZAM! Wars will cease! Sickness will be a thing of the past! There will no longer be poverty! Just read The Way To Happiness and paradise is yours! No one ever stops to think that if a little booklet could do all that, what need would there be for Scientology? You would have to close down all those Ideal Orgs!
