IMO, the Broekers' possible involvement with scientology is nil. After what DM has done to the (dis)organization, there's nothing useable left to revive.

In reply to <a href="https://www.mikerindersblog.org/david-miscavige-end-game/#comment-296401">Wynski</a>.

Wynski, the general point is that the CofS finds ways to manipulate and exploit the legal system, that can be extraordinary and unpredictable. What they would do regarding something specific like a Miscavige deposition is unknown, but the sort of track record that I've cited suggests they will maneuver to delay it longer than might have been thought possible, and try to work seemingly impossible angles to get out of it.

I've followed Scientology legal cases for going on 3 decades. You may not remember the days when they blatantly tried to defraud courts and even had an attorney censured for barratry, but I expect they will go to the mat to protect Miscavige if necessary.

And I've personally been involved in a civil case that ended up appealed to the Supreme Court, one that had expert and experienced attorneys shaking their heads. More than a dozen years later I have to keep a top attorney in the field on retainer, and periodically take yet more of my time to work on figuring out how to deal with one of the parties that keeps threatening to re-litigate obscure points. You have to understand how the adversarial system works in practice, particularly when there are litigious or even malicious parties with deep pockets, not just the theory or it how you may have seen it play out in simple cases.

In reply to <a href="https://www.mikerindersblog.org/david-miscavige-end-game/#comment-296418">Dave</a>.

When Miscavige fired the PIs surveiling Broeker for decades, I assumed that meant he had decided that Broeker no longer posed any significant threat. I figure that either Broeker has been away for so long and gone such different directions in his life that he's left Scientology behind, or else he reached the point where making a deal for money to retire on (he's older than Miscavige, approaching 70) in exchange for silence sounded like a good deal. There are other possibilities but, regardless, I don't think Broeker retains any following or influence, and at worst could just embarrass Miscavige with things he knows.
