Kudos to you, Mary, for all you’ve shared. The kid who disconnected from you has no idea of the enormity of his offense against a sincere, honest person of good will who ALSO happens to be his loving mother. One day he will understand and my hope is that he finds a way to forgive himself. Because of course you will forgive him. Will he forgive himself, despite what will assuredly be your assurances that he should? Because at some point, we each have to acknowledge that we are who we are and that we make our own decisions and that the life we have is based on these decisions. At some point – 30, 40, 50 or even older, it no longer works to say, “Well, my parents did such and such, and if they hadn’t done such and such I would not have…or, I would have…” At some point, we each have to take responsibility for what we are, what we do and what we have. So he’ll come back, and you’ll forgive him, of course, and my hope, Mary, is that he’ll find a way to forgive himself, because without that, life isn’t worth much.

That’s true, Teen. I’ve observed what you’ve described with others but its because of my own experience that I know this is true.

I had this unwillingness to admit being duped about a friend, a woman friend, back in the day. Nothing to do with Scientology. Just a girl I decided was going to be not only my BFF but my “sister”. Sounds funny, but what can I tell you, I wanted a sister. When I finally HAD to confront it, I saw that all along she’d been showing me who and what she was. I just wouldn’t look. Because that would have made me wrong! Because I had already “decided” that she was my sister, and, as my sister, she of course had to be a good, caring, honest and trustworthy person and friend. LOL! Not so much. Took me 8 years to figure out what most people did in 8 minutes.

All scientology parents are different in this regard. I wanted both my kids to go to college and I didn’t push scientology on either one of them but did introduce them. This is probably why i still have one child that did not disconnect – because he did not want scientology and we (his parents) did not push it. Even when the child that did take to scientology was being recruited for the Sea Org at 17, I threw a shit fit because the people recruiting him basically kidnapped him for a night to do it so we (his parents) couldn’t intervene. I did not want him to join the Sea Org. Of course, I got a KR written on me for that and

Mom obviously has superpowers if she has stereoscopic vision with one eye blacked out. But see if scientology saves her when she rear ends a cop car at the light through inability to judge distance.
