Aqua — the answer to this is contained in the Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout. A sociopath has no conscience. It is hard for anyone who does have a conscience to grasp what that means. In his mind he has never done anything wrong. Everything he does is right. And if anyone dares think otherwise they are stupid and deserve to be eliminated. If things are going badly it is all because “the SP’s” are messing things up, but he is the only one with the confront and skill to be able to deal with such suppression.

His mind does not work like a normal person.

Read the book, it is worth the effort.

Second, if Patrick is saying that there are 1,300 targeted leaders for this campaign, and he says that dividing the cost of reaching them (I’m assuming at $1,000 list price per set) by the number of subscribers on the list means a contribution of $65 per head, that implies that there are approximately 21,000 people on this mailing list, which we would assume is all Scientologists in the US and Canada. Given that I’m sure Patrick is required to report the size of the list as a stat to his management every week, and therefore the number of people on the list can never go down or he will get ethics handling, I am sure there are a large number of addresses of SPs and of e-mails that no longer work. This tells me that my current estimate of the number of people currently in the cult in the US is somewhere near 15,000… Nice when they tell you themselves how badly the roof is falling in without knowing they’re telling you.

Third, the campaign to reach 100,000 opinion leaders is a bit ambitious. That seems to be several times larger than the number of unsolicited sets of “The Basics” that they claim to have mailed out. I can’t believe that this campaign will succeed, unless the Kool-Aid drinkers are going to put the money that people would have otherwise spent going to events in the collapsing events business into buying sets of the Ron-O-Pedia for every municipal traffic court judge in the US. In other words, if this campaign succeeds, I’m wondering if it will come at the expense of donations elsewhere. I don’t think they’ll sell anywhere near $100 million worth of Ron-O-Pedia’s but if they do, it’s not going to be extra cash in DM’s bank account like it was with the Basics.

Whenever I read one of Mike’s articles like this one I always wonder to myself how DM is not embarrassed, how he can manage to have no shame, no back off, you know, from presenting himself and his religion as a solution to mankind’s ills, given all of his own crimes, given all of the bad cherch PR, all the lawsuits, all of it. I always have this thought: “How does he have the nerve to keep on going in front of his staff? How can he even face them? What does say to the staff to explain these things?”

Are these naive questions? I honestly can’t think with how he can confront his staff, you know, those close to him, including the attorneys? Maybe this guy is way below embarrassment and shame?
