Here’s an anecdote regarding the six weeks I spent on The Freewinds in 1989:

I flew from Los Angeles twice to the ABC Islands. The first time, ship security would not let me on board. Why? Because I had not yet purchased an IAS membership. Since I couldn’t afford it at that moment, Mary Beth paid for it. Then, and only then, did security allow me to board.

Mary Beth had been my boss and the In Charge of the Los Angeles OSA US Audits Project in 1986. In 1989, I had been working at Sterling Management Systems for about two years when one day, my office telephone rang. From out of the blue, I heard Mary Beth’s voice, complete with that sweet, familiar Southern twang. She told me that she had been working on the Ship’s Audits Project, and she also had arrived at the Ship very pregnant. She hoped that I would become her replacement so that she could go ashore where a ship’s rocking wouldn’t nauseate her.

There! I wrote that and don’t feel any different: I don’t feel any less Suppressive and I don’t feel any more Suppressive.

Well, they surely got that right though they had an overwhelming narrative to consider me suppressive, i.e. but I have never seen my declare order. If they had they would be violating everything LRH said about Ethics Orders. Of course by then, they did not give a flying fuck what LRH said.

Think of the paranoia – the ongoing paranoia that is David Miscavige’s underlying, fundamental motivation for all the rewrites and mandatory redos, and indeed, for everything he does, says, orders, etc.

No doubt he believes he’ll never be able to rest easy until everything that LRH wrote has either been edited in some way, rewritten and/or otherwise modified in one fashion or another to reflect his own personal imprimatur so that his obedient sheeple can be persuaded that he has uncovered “true, actual Source as LRH always intended.”

Allah help them if one of those CMO messengers damaged a piece of his underwear. Per CMO order #1, a messenger on duty is an emesary ( probably spelled wrong) but I imagine that a voice would come down ordering that 12 year old messenger ( like Janice ( Gillham) Grady run around a pole to EP. Most Public knew that Staff did not get paid a lot. Some that owned businesses either rented rooms out, or had staff as staff in off hours.
But a lot of (unrich everyman) Scientologists did not have a lot of money either. Most were Bridge broke, IAS broke. I guess it was kind of looked at like, well, they made the commitment, and we were talked into the notion that we needed to suck it up and help the planet. As you see, the mental damage that mindset can create make a lot of people blow. Total commitment with little in return for decades. It wears on a person.
