As an outsider, I had always wondered why the upper echelons were taken from their positions of power and put in the “Hole” for years- many who still reside there to this day.
Since watching the “Aftermath” series (5 times) and kept abreast of the going inside of Scientology, I’ve had the understanding of Miscavige’s evil. Reading this email from Cook sheds a new light of the inner workings into the mind of this tyrant. I don’t understand why there isn’t a collective mutiny carried out by the people of Scientology. I just don’t get it at all.

I am over 60 now and have spent my life in the Church. Some truly terrible things have happened to my loved ones. If I said what it was it would not be safe for us.
I am not in but not out. It is awful. Don’t want to be attacked. My significant other has made it clear they cannot handle the truth. So I keep it to myself. Finally broke down and went and saw a minister from the Unity Church who is also a mental health professional. We basically came to the conclusion that in my position I should surrender the problem over to “God”. My heart is broken about the destruction. Hardly know how to proceed. I just read Debbie Cook’s email. I remember you, Debbie! Thank you for your bravery! Wish I could see you and hug you and say thank you in person! I am just going through the beginning of the nightmare of finding out the truth. Never knew I could be so heartbroken. Scientology really worked for me and I have never lost my case gain. It was always the problem with application and particular people or staff that were troublesome. Not Scientology. I really hate hearing what has happened to Heber. I love Heber and would do anything to help him. I have learned to pray and ask the Universe for help. Eckhart Toll’es “A New Earth” is a great help. Tosha Silver’s “Outrageous Openness” is great, too. Thank you to the people who have suffered to deliver the truth. Seen from a far away perspective this is maybe happening for the eventual greater good. I send love and compassion to other heartbroken Scn’s and ask that you use your comm line to the Universe for help in this matter. Xx

In reply to Nikki. Debbie is one of the most brave women I’ve ever known. She did everything she could to be independent from the abuse and still stayed faithful to what she believed in. I remember when we went to see the movie “The Master”. She got up and left in the middle of the movie. I went outside to find her crying because she didn’t like the way they portrayed LRH. She told me to go back in and finish the movie. When the movie was over and the rest of us came outside, she said she didn’t want to talk about it. She had such admiration for LRH so we never talked about the movie again. We all respected her devotion and belief but empathized with her when she talked about her time in THE HOLE. The abuse must have been unbearable.

I would not blame Debbie for settling with the church. Judging by the hell she was put through after this email, I expect her life has been made a nightmare by the church. No doubt she has been disconnected from her family and support base and has been subject to harassment by Miscavige and his minions. She clearly wanted to remain in the church and to stand up for what she believed were the true values of the church, but was let down and then victimised by them. I cannot blame her for wanting to pursue a quiet life. I wish her and her husband well.

According to “Scientology and the aftermath” Seriies 1 Episode 8 “Ask me anything, part 3”
“Debbie and Wayne agreed to a settlement with the Church.
Today they are doing well and volunteer in their community.
They are prohibited from criticizing the Church publicly… or even communicating with us about this program.”
Which suggests to me that her silence has been bought for at least 30 pieces of silver.
