All this Scientology stuff was bound to blow up, from the launch of Xenu.net to Anonymous and all that followed, people will never tire of watching, reading, listening to any media about CoS. It is accessible enough that anybody gets it, foreign enough that it has the novelty everybody seeks in entertainment… dangerous, sometimes scary, often enraging, always interesting… and it is all real, and happening here. Anybody with a lick of curiosity can’t get enough.

Mike Rinder & Leah Remini showed that not only can you do a one-off documentary, but you can pump out an endless stream of media about CoS and not only do people never tire, but it just leaves them wanting more. All demographics eat it up… as someone who spectated the Anonymous drama on 4chan /b/ some years back, I was eager to see the abuses of Scientology become more well known.

When Scientology and the Aftermath started airing, I brought it up to everyone I talked to for a while… mention it to my best friend from high school – he’s seen it and loves it. My Mom, whose tastes in entertainment rarely intersect y own? She’s caught every episode, and she and her co-workers discuss them the next day. My Dad? Well, he doesn’t watch any TV… but he’s heard people talking about it, and says he’ll check it out when he retires.

I’ve even seen streamers on Twitch who normally play video games or talk about politics stream discussions of Scientology, and pull in a crowd double their normal size. Reckless kids are on YouTube, seemingly trying to get fair-gamed, because they see it as a sure-fire way to get views. And the crazy thing is, they aren’t even succeeding (at getting fair-gamed) because the criticism is so ubiquitous, that the church couldn’t possibly keep up.

Then, coming at it from another angle, The Aftermath Foundation is out there, wanting nothing more than to help any members who leave integrate with society, find jobs and a place to stay, people who know everything these folks might need, and are prepared to do all they can to provide it. It never occurred to me until more recently when I really thought about it, just how significant that is.

The store manager probably put the mags back out after she left the store. Might be a standard appeasement response whenever anyone complains.

More likely she will have to endure and pay for many sessions of very pricey Sec Checks as she dared to read the anti-cult headlines and then ruminate on the lack P.R., exposing herself to PTSness by speaking to the manager who apparently has no problem with the magazine in his store.

Xeenu I understand your upset but don’t go all stupid on us. A store manager can take down stuff for sale. Stay on target and go after the stupid scamologists don’t make up false crap about the people who have to deal with them. That’s being as bad as the scamologists making up accusations.

It is sad that the manager would accomodate unwarranted, unwanted and unreasonable requests which might actually be illegal too. Instead of firmly holding his ground. No censorship in this store. If someone is not happy with a certain newspaper or magazine they are free to contact the publisher. And the customer is free to shop somewhere else. In fact did I have a store I would suggest this customer leave to never return.

Also I think Scientology has a MU about “religious discrimination”. Discrimination is if something/somebody is treated because of race/religion etc. Writing about a religion – in case of COS more a “religion” and reporting is free speech as long as it is neither insulting nor untrue.
