It might be a more subtle explanation too. I joke that my husband can start a fight in an empty room. In the right mood, for example, like yesterday, I could say an off the cuff comment like “look that used car lot has two vets in it” and get a 1/2 hour top volume lecture about how not everyone in town drives practical vehicles and who do I think I am thinking I have a right to judge. I usually turn on the radio or put my earphones in at about the 2 minute mark and let him make his point to the sky or the window because it’s not anything I said, just something he needs to say for some odd reason.

Alanzo seems to have become kind of the same way. Maybe he just doesn’t want to argue the same thing everyone else is arguing because he doesn’t get push back when he does that? I dunno? Kind of sad actually.

I didn’t personally experience abuse either. I left for the same reasons you did. I also count myself very lucky for having no loved ones taken from me by the toxic policies of the Church of Scientology.. That said, I COULD have been one of the people who experienced this devastation. If the cult had had any leverage on me (loved ones in, my business or finances dependent upon being in good standing) if there had been ANYTHING they could have used to get what they wanted from me, they WOULD have used it. There were and are very good people in my org. I trusted them once but although I don’t hate them I’m very clear about being totally unable to trust them now, or ever again. They’re just not to be trusted, and if I can’t trust someone it is at best a bore and at worst a huge risk to have him or her around, so why bother?
