Once you call yourself a scientologist, and their hooks are into you, you have to accept that you have an immense boat anchor attached to your body (much like a body-thetan, heh).

As soon as you abandon scientology, it's like an immense weight is taken off your shoulders. And freedom tastes wonderful.

LRH's name, and David Miscavige's name, are recorded in history. I would not change my place with either of them, for history will judge both of them mercilessly. We should pity LRH and DM.

I wouldn't want to change my place with Tom Cruise either. Yuck.

NIckname, you are right, and you know why I know? Because your comment just has that ring of "truthiness" to it.

(Sarcasm alert on or off, depending on what turns your crank).

Idle Morgue, thanks for looking all that up.

Scientology paid about double what someone had bought the building for just the year before, and also a similar markup on a parking lot next door as well, at the peak of the real estate bubble. I don't know why they thought they had to buy just then, when they didn't even have the funds for the renovation, but of course if they'd waited another year or two they could have bought the properties for much less.

They are racking up all these expenses on an unused property when, presumably, they can't pay the staff decently, if at all - or, typically, even buy toilet paper. Some of these "idle" org projects have apparently further weakened the orgs, both because of dissension over the original fundraising for the purchase, and then due to the expensive burden of the unused property and the endless fundraising for renovations.

In reply to <a href="https://www.mikerindersblog.org/theater-of-the-absurd/#comment-171454">Aquamarine</a>.

Very true, Aqua. Great way of phrasing the thought many know to be true. The subversion. Very visible examples are the removal of the SHSBC and the OEC volumes. Not to mention all the changes to the Bridge since 1976. Goodness knows what sessions are like. A lot of food for careful thought in what you said.

E.g. It sometimes would appear easier to be evil, than to be good, easier to pander to the reactive mind than to try to tell the truth. But the rewards for goodness and truth are much greater than anything elsewhere, and there you get into the religious themes which seem to be common to all great religions, that spiritual values are far above the material. I think the point there is not to disdain the material and reject it, but to accomplish it through good products.

And I've g-o-t to pound the table in admin scales! They can be used to debug activities, and to spot illogical activities. The more one integrates one's actual functioning admin scales, the more things make sense and the more direction one gains. The illogical ones drop off and the buggy ones get debugged. Cause and effect becomes more clear, easier to see and work with. E.g. Why buy a bigger place when the one you have already has a room basically unused? Why is a big enough desk always cluttered? Funny ones too, like: why does my parrot swear?
