In reply to <a href="https://www.mikerindersblog.org/thursday-funnies-163/#comment-214555">A J</a>.

"Yes, I get it, some folks just don't like religion..." You got that right, A J.

And if as a tangiental point someone here sharest that Christianity, the philosophy, via various stratagems, was hammered into a religion acceptable to the pagans, a religion that for at least a thousand years HAD to be adhered to, upon threat of torture or death perhaps you might want to be a bit more tolerant of those who, when the subject of Christianity arises, do not stay strictly "on point".

Talk about wandering off point:

For over a thousand years, Christianity was pretty much of an incredibly bloody, gruesome horror show altogether unrecognizable from the original "love thy neighbor as thyself" / "You are your brother's keeper" philosophy as written in the New Testament.

The only reason its still around is because several hundred years ago the various Christian sects wised up and eliminated the punishments, disconnections, assortment of tortures and manners of death as the consequences of heresy and instead focused on helping, nurturing, understanding and loving people

THAT is why Christianity is still alive, and that's the only reason it is.

And now I'm guilty of your crime, too. Sorry to wander "off topic". Please resume your regularly scheduled Christian program. You were saying?

In reply to <a href="https://www.mikerindersblog.org/thursday-funnies-163/#comment-214548">Peter</a>.

Peter, thanks for sharing that account.

From what I can tell, nowadays, a mission holder wouldn't dare close due to fear of heavy "ethics" consequences - unless, of course, they rate celebrity treatment.

Some of the missions had gone "squirrel" and were doing things like keeping two sets of books (partly to try to cope with Hubbard's unreasonable demands for money), though that certainly didn't justify the way that they were all treated - but it occurs to me, if nothing else, Scientology is really sort of about "one size fits all" approaches to things.

Also, in the late 70s, did you experience the dropoff in business that many missions did, which was probably actually attributable to the decline of the baby boom demographic, even if Scientology didn't understand that reality?
