Val Kilmer has been dealing with medical problems for a while, and when Cruise got him in Top Gun 2 the media were playing up how great he was sticking up for his “friend”. I thought it was funny given that if Cruise were honest he’d admit in his view that Kilmer “deserves” his condition.

It was one of the few bits I couldn’t abide: it just made no sense. Obviously, other bits DID make sense so I stayed with it, thinking I’d eventually get the outcome stated on the grade chart. In my own way, I did finally make it: I left and by doing so, I found my freedom. I have many scientologists to thank for pointing me to the exit.
