I wrote this for Marty's blog in January 2010. I had occasion to pull it out for someone to read and I re-read it myself. Probably many of you saw this when it was originally published, but there are new readers here and I think it worth putting out again. One thing I noted was how little I addressed the subject of identification with MEST -- [they are] close to MEST and have a very solid agreement with MEST.
