I’ve never been in – so maybe I’m missing something here – but who actually thinks this is ok? The simple necessities of life – bathing & brushing your teeth!!! Clean clothes!!
How does someone get up every single morning and think – it’s ok for me to be unhygienic? I just can’t shake the thought of dirty underwear day after day.
I just don’t get it! Don’t they walk around wondering why they have to live that way – but DM can live in the ultimate luxury? Don’t they wonder what he is sacrificing for the “good” of the ‘church’?
It may not make sense from a normal perspective, but cults or high control groups typically impose various sorts of deprivation on members and workers, as part of the mechanisms of indoctrination and control. It’s a gradual process in which followers slowly get accustomed to various sorts of sacrifice and subjugation – including accepting that their leaders are somehow worthy of a much better lifestyle (I’ve seen accounts of scientologists assuming that DM is a sort of superman working tirelessly, just as they idolized Hubbard). There are a number of good books, as well as articles, about the processes and mechanisms at work, such as those by Steve Hassan, who also has a website.
It occurs to me, this highlights another distinction that might be made between cults and legitimate groups – abusive groups typically treat the majority of their workers badly, while legitimate religions and traditions generally treat them with respect and dignity, and have only a small minority choosing to live lives of renunciation and deprivation (such as monks and nuns).
It reminds me of the crusade of religious freedom in Portland at the eighties. I wrote a KR inwhere I told the staff in my org in Gothenburg that I had stolen the bank from the thetans in Portland while I was sleeping in my bed. They all caved in,,,,some kind of blow releasing me from all the banks in Portland.
It wasn¨t a KR,,,it was an O/W. Sorry. Exteriorized thetans stealing the bank from other thetans are out-ethics, they don’t bring in money, they only bring in bank and it’s bad to $cientology. The day exteriorized exteriorize out of money they are out-ethics and must do O/Ws.
Pretty accurate description of the communal living standards & mental afflictions imposed by Scientology. Then again, what else can you expect from a lie machine?

To expound “Christmas” Holiday celebrations really shows that COS doesn’t know what the HELL they are doing. CHRISTmas for those in the know is a celebration of the birth of JESUS CHRIST….who COS has determined is an IMPLANT…huh, how’s that again?
Now it’s December, close to the BIRTH of the IMPLANT known as JESUS CHRIST…..& COS is talking about parties, celebrations, gifts for children (which need to be donated by their own members)âŚ.& of course the COS ever present need for donations of $$$$$$ for “Ideal Org” who are…could it really be…that those buildings are for the most part…empty. So if JESUS CHRIST really IS an IMPLANT according to COS…what the Hell are they doing even using the word “CHRISTmas”….

When I was in, I made it a point to shower every morning. I gave up on makeup really quickly because, well, it was a choice between makeup or soap, shampoo and toothpaste. I didn’t smoke and was certainly the odd woman out for not smoking. Luckily I’ve never smoked. The stench of cigarette smoke basically ruins any attempt at bathing or even brushing your teeth.
That alone should give people a pause when investigating scientology. If I were to walk into a shiny building that was staffed by underfed stinky people, I would walk back out. The edifices are not all that need an upgrade Mr. Miscavige (and I use the term Mr. loosely). The money spent on idle morgues would have been so much better spent on making the people better. Just sayin’.
You put the thought into my mind to strike an effective blow. I would love to stand at the sidewalk and, as they walk by, hand SO people small clear plastic bags with soap, lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, combs, and toilet paper. It’s something a SP Volunteer Minister should do.
They have “travel sized” ones for around $1 at some stores. Then again, what might happen is that you’d GIVE it to “one of them” & they would SELL it to someone else so that they themselves could eat or buy cigarettes…..sad but true.
It would still be worth it. Both to help someone in need and to drive home the point that: despite being in a religious organization that promises to take care of their needs in exchange for their service – they’re still in need!
They will never see it until they are ready to open their eyes to the truth. Right now they are STILL thinking they are doing “good to clear the planet”……SAVE YOUSELF FIRST>>>>GET THE HELL OUT.

If you want to be really supressive, make sure you put an Aftermath Foundation card in there (hidden of course) so they can really benefit from the toiletries.
Giving them bags of toiletries is an excellent idea.
Some of the younger ones might be ânaughty â enough to take them.
I believe all scented products are still banned by some decree or other.
So unscented would be the best bet.

That reminded me of when I went to the Local Scientology Morgue to start courses and the staff reeked of body odor, coffee and cigarettes. They stunk really bad. The bathroom at the morgue stunk like someone had died in it. I mean – this is supposed to be a religion that has the tech to clear the planet.

I walked out and never went back. I have been Scientology Watching since Mike and Leah came out with the show on A&E. Actually, since Going Clear came out – the book, then the documentary. Mike and Leah’s show pulled me out of apathy on the subject of suppressing Scientology. I want this cult shut down and the tax exempt status pulled for eternity. It is not a church – it is a for profit corporation that hides behind the religious cloak.
