A new article in The Guardian details the latest problem facing scientology in the UK. They have certainly been on a roll of bad news of late. Alex Barnes-Ross is a one man wrecking crew. You can see the string of stories of scientology catastrophes in just the last 6 months at his excellent website Scientology Business .
The latest setback is reported this way: A Scientology-linked addiction charity accused of subjecting vulnerable people to psychological drills that left them “broken” and “traumatised” is being investigated by Britain’s charities watchdog.
The Charity Commission said it had opened a regulatory compliance case into Narconon UK, which claims to help people become “drug-free for good” and had been promoted on the NHS website, to examine concerns about its “governance, administration and management”.
Does not sound good…
They interviewed some people who had done the program: One person said it felt like their mind had been “shattered into a million pieces”. Another said: “You’re helpless there, and the only way out is blind submission or lose thousands of pounds. If I’d have had any concept of what the programme actually was, I would never have signed up.”
Of course, Narconon responded that the claims were “inaccurate, misleading and thoroughly distorted” and added how amazing the program really is.
Sort of reminiscent of the situation in the US when Narconons began being sued and ended up settling a raft of cases. Since then, the number of Narconon centers has drastically reduced, now focused on “celebrity” Narconons.
Even in the face of this, Narconon and scientology (which takes credit for all activities of Narconon when announcing their accomplishments at events) still claim they are “creating a drug-free world.” These days Narconon may have one or two graduates a week WORLDWIDE. There are more new people than that being addicted to harmful drugs in an average city block in every major city on earth every week. As with “Clearing the Planet”, they are literally going in reverse. Every day the planet is becoming less Clear and less drug-free.
As a final note, I have some experience with the Charity Commission as detailed in my book. Miscavige pulled out all the stops to try to get them to recognize scientology as a charity in the UK. He flew in Tom Cruise. He met with and toured representatives through St Hill himself. He got nowhere.

I love this “Alex Barnes-Ross is a one man wrecking crew.” Go, Apostate Alex!

The last sentence says it all! “He (Miscavige) got nowhere.”
That dangerous moron of an automated individual (less than human) is so belligerently unintelligent, & like Hubbard before him, is stuck in a game of their own making which cannot be won nor concluded with any of its stated objectives obtained, as it’s all a scam & lies. It is definitively set with only one future option; in that it can only be destroyed. Haha, what did Hubbard say about power change (with money and being materialistically abundant) thus being in a position of power? You need to write up your “comm lines,” in other words, maintain good relations, – or the game becomes getting you! Hubbard was right on that one & it sure got him destroyed, all alone, on the run from the process servers and nebulous higher authorities, hunted like vermin by journalists and people he ripped off by his religion and died (killed may be implied) in a travel trailer in the desert. He was scared of every shadow & yet, was worth millions!
It says a lot about the sheep like intelligence of Tom Cruise in that he is at Miscavige’s beckon call to try and solve his unsolvable problems. The set formula of Scientology, no matter how much money and material possessions it has scammed is on a path of self-induced destruction, they actually lust for it and just don’t get it! Their only two faced “friends” are lawyers, corruptible police, criminals and the duped.
I can’t think of anything not brutal or inhumane about the actions of the Church of Scientology. I read somewhere there are many types of hell, but they all have one thing in common – they are containment facilities.

This is great news!!! Well not for Scientology or Narconon.-Suzie

Woohoo!!!!! NarCONon UK is one of the few left in the world and it’s obviously headed for a well-earned extinction. Thank you, Alex.
It’s so nice to see the wheels of justice turning on this travesty of a front group for the Kult. I don’t know if peeps know this but back in the day, NarCONon’s program consisted of the “Bridge” up to Grade IV until that couldn’t be passed off as “secular” any more so it morphed into Purif, TRs and Objectives and a bunch of “Basic Courses”, all at 3-4 times the cost of the regular “Church” prices.
It’s pretty much disappeared here in Straya – stats are straight up and vertical. For the good guys 🙂

This is good news! I wonder what the East Sussex council will think of this development.

Somehow it reminded me of what it was like to be in the RPF. Definitely little difference.
In addition to not wanting to pay taxes and wanting recognition, DM perhaps also wanted money that in certain countries the government gives to structures approved to manage drug addicts. But I’m not sure about UK.

Off Topic:
Mike, is there a link or a particular post that lists YOUR recommended reading beyond the ex’s books?
I’ve found Leah’s listed, but I would swear you used to have your own list on a side panel or post.
Thanks,
Rip
also, It’d be nice to have those added to your Important reading section, if you’ve a mind to. 🙂

We were talking about rehab instutuons in my psychology class since we were talkingabout drugs and alcoholand the negative effects that they can have (as well as the positive effects). My professor said “In the circumstane that it goes to far. Do NOT go to Narconon, it’s connected to a cult so just don’t get involved with them. There are thousands more rehab centers around”

At all levels Narconon is harmful: to the client, to whoever is paying for Narconon’s un-professional care, and for the entire rehab community which gets poisoned by such quackery. I hope the Brits give them the boot.
