The LA Mayors race really got scientology hot and bothered.
When Rick Caruso made it an issue that his opponent, Karen Bass, had attended a scientology ribbon cutting event, it turned scientology into a hot topic. I wrote about this previously: Karen Bass — L.A. Mayoral Candidate
So, the STAND League rallied their troops. To do what? Call and complain about the “bigotry”…
The problem they have, is BOTH candidates have taken an anti-scientology stance. With the STAND League letter writing campaign (see: Scientology Massively Unpopular) apparently ineffective, they resorted to phone calls. And they have to call BOTH campaigns. Which is about as lame as it gets. Scientology knows that even in LA, the campaigns probably got MORE positive comments about their stances on scientology than the complaint letters and calls.
They even dragged the old war horse in from the pasture to remind everyone that the “voice of the IAS” is still alive (they don’t hold IAS events any longer it seems so he is not heard from). And credit where it’s due, he looks pretty damned good for a 79-year old.
But scientology equating themselves with anti-Semitic signs on the 405 Freeway is pretty cynical. Remember, scientology (and him specifically) announcing Tony Muhammad, one of the most vehement anti-Semites around, as the winner of the “IAS Freedom” medal and their cozy relationship with NOI has meant they have never criticized Muhammad, Farrakhan or the NOI for their hatred of Jews. Pomerantz then claims “I am Jewish” — a standard scientology lie. He is an “OT” and as such he knows that other religions are fake and implants installed in the “Wall of Fire” according to Hubbard.
As a proud Scientologist I cannot communicate how deeply offended I am by @RickCarusoLA and @KarenBassLA bigotry against my religion. Watch my full video here: https://t.co/P1LY3SxOXY pic.twitter.com/yBXfgivDT4

Pomerantz (and some others) has a slicker video at the STAND League site.
The problem scientology has is that they brought all of this upon themselves. They are the ones that trick politicians into appearing at their events and then use them as “endorsements.” They claim they evidence “massive popularity” for scientology. When those politicians then try to distance themselves, they claim they are bigots. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Like everything in scientology, when something is good, they take full credit for it. When it’s bad, they have no responsibility and it is the work of bigots, haters and supporters of psychiatry.
