The Volcano Mystery

January 7, 2023 By Mike Rinder 28 Comments

I got this promo piece recently. The volcano Popocatepetl is near Puebla and is the city's most famous landmark.  It got me thinking about Hubbard's list of volcanoes that are part of his OT III story. Not a one in Mexico.   Why? Mexico apparently wasn't in his thoughts at the time he concocted his OT III story. And how is it that he was so geographically challenged? His spelling is terrible, but "Kolomonjero" is a LONG way from the Atlantic. There are no volcanoes in the Eastern part of Canada, they are all on the Pacific side of the country, Tangier is not a … [Read more...]

Can Scientologists be Christians or Jews Too?

August 2, 2022 By Mike Rinder 2 Comments

This is the eighth "vacation" post, revisiting some of the more  important articles to have appeared on my blog over the years. The original post and comments is here.   Scientology likes to tell the world that you can be a scientologist and also be a Christian, Jew, Buddhist or anything else. This is an "acceptable truth" (defined by Hubbard this way: Handling truth is a touchy business also. You don't have to tell everything you know-that would jam the comm line too. Tell an acceptable truth. Agreement with one's message is what PR is seeking to achieve. Thus the message … [Read more...]

Episode 52: The Bridge Deep Dive Part 3 with Vicki Marshall

August 2, 2021 By Mike Rinder 44 Comments

This week we are joined by Leah's mother, Vicki, to discuss the OT levels. Vicki achieved the very pinnacle of scientology auditing, doing OT VIII on the scientology cruise ship Freewinds. We talk about the earlier OT levels and our experiences on them and then Vicki's recollections of OT VIII. Suffice to say, it was underwhelming. This is the Freewinds, the only place you can do OT VIII - her usual location is tied up at a dock in Curacao or Aruba. For the last year or more it has been Aruba: Here is some background information from an earlier post: The Real Story of the … [Read more...]

Clearly Not “Clear”

January 27, 2021 By Mike Rinder 35 Comments

Brad Spence certainly seems to have had some wins from achieving the state of Clear. But his success story is weak sauce compared to what is promised ny Hubbard concerning the State of Clear. He claims he is now "me" and has found "clarity" in the way he lives life and is more certain in his observations, conclusions and reactions. All very subjective achievements. I could claim those same things from doing meditation or reading a book or just because I woke up an$ the sun was shining and the birds chirping. Nice things all, but who is ever going to know what they reall6 mean … [Read more...]

Crazy L. Ron Hubbard's 1980 letter to Pres. Reagan explaining his plan for a national sales tax and abolishing the IRS. It was a key theme of #scientology's war on the IRS... until they got exemption. Do today's proponents know? Full letter in blog post.

@MikeRinder just finished reading your book. I've been anti-scientology for about 30 years. Your book was so informative as to the mindset and the bullying, gaslighting etc. Every through I watched the documentaries and listened to the podcast, I found this book so much (/2)
