There is a rash of media articles following the disclosure of parts of Tom Cruise’s deposition in the lawsuit he filed against a magazine for saying he “Abandoned” Suri.
The media is of course focused on the sensational aspects, including the fact that while he apparently didn’t have time to visit Suri he flew from the US to the UK for the annual IAS Event to show his support for his BFF.
I read the excerpts of his deposition that are on the internet and was struck by the arrogance he displayed in responding to the questioning. Very reminiscent of his BFF. He snapped terminals with Dear Leader a long time ago (see the now infamous Matt Lauer interview for the classic demonstration and compare to Miscavige with Ted Koppel). He apparently remains completely in his valence.
Based on what I read, it is my opinion that the likelihood of Cruise winning the case is about the same as the likelihood of his BFF standing on stage and admitting he did anything wrong. And I would guess that a jury hearing Cruise testify like he did might award costs and fees to the magazine. He went a long way to confirming their story — at the least for them to make the argument there was no actual malice. But more significantly he made himself look like a spoiled, holier than thou creepy cult person. Not the sort of plaintiff likely to be favored by a jury.
But the really significant thing about all this story to those who are interested in Scientology is what is NOT being mentioned in the media. It’s too “inside baseball” for the general public, but it sure as hell is important to a lot of people that read this blog.
I was prompted to make this post by the first comments on Tony Ortega’s story yesterday from Kevin Tighe and Bernie Headley. Two men who have had their daughters disconnect from them entirely. I feel their pain as I am in the same position.
While Tom Cruise is fighting what he claims are false allegations that he has abandoned his daughter, he does not dispute that he did NOT see her for many, many weeks. Yet, there are many that are NOT ALLOWED to see their daughters and sons and would give up almost anything for that right. He is given special dispensation, and he DOESN’T see his daughter. (He does NOT need the money so badly that he cannot take time to be with her….) Why?
There can be NO doubt that in the eyes of Tom and his BFF, Katie Holmes is an SP. She left the church and publicly disavowed it by not defending it when every media outlet in the world said she left Tom because of Scientology. She has totally distanced herself from the subject and in doing so “black PRed it.” This IS how the BFF’s view things.
There are numerous others who have done FAR LESS than diss TC and DM and they are assigned SP “untouchable” status and disconnection is ENFORCED.
There is no doubt Tom is a hard core Kool Aid drinker. He left his shoot and flew to the UK to attend the IAS event. How does any dedicated Scientologist deal with an SP (despite whatever they say about confronting and shattering suppression)? They avoid them like the plague. No card-carrying member of the RCS wants to have anything to do with a “DB SP.” MANY who read this blog have experienced running into an old “friend” who now refuses to talk or even look at you because you are “an SP.” I know, Sea Org members literally hide if they spot me in a store in Clearwater. Starbucks empties out. They leave movie theaters. They cower and run if they even SEE an “SP.”
Based on my experience with Miscavige, the natter sessions about Katie have been extensive. Tom would be viewed as “weak” by his BFF if he didn’t act “tough.” Miscavige sent his own wife to purgatory never to be heard from again, no doubt because like so many others before her she was an “SP” who was trying to destroy Him.
Tom hinted at this when explaining that one of the reasons for not seeing Suri is “of course respecting Kate’s wishes in terms of Suri’s scheduling.” I read that differently as a euphemism for “I am not going to kowtow to an SP by letting her tell me what I can and cannot do.” I can imagine his BFF giving him a pat on the back for “refusing to cave in to an SP.”
But then there is the REALLY interesting question.
Why HASN’T Cruise been forced to disconnect from Katie (and thus Suri?) like so many other parents who have lost their children because one half of the marriage is no longer in “good standing” with the church and disconnection HAS been enforced?
Everyone know the answer. The rules are bent because the public scrutiny would be a terrible thing for “church PR.” The church would be accused of breaking up Tom Cruise’s family (funny, that is what is happening in any event). Tom cannot even say that he doesn’t WANT to associate with Katie based on his strongly held religious beliefs. Why not? Of course because if he did that would generate a massive avalanche of “entheta” about Scientology. Even though it is 100% true and it is what he, as a good Scientologist not only believes, but practices.
The inexorable conclusion is that the criteria for whether someone is required to disconnect (or even hint at it) depends on how high profile you are and how close you are to Dear Leader.
Thus if Kevin Tighe or Bernie Headley were international tabloid fodder, they would not be suffering enforced disconnection from THEIR daughters. Just like Tommy Davis and Jessica Feshbach were not declared when they left the Sea Org.
This opens the door to ending this particularly cruel abuse.
Because it PROVES that the ONLY thing that alters the application of “disconnection” (or any other abuse in the RCS) is media scrutiny.
The “we do this as a matter of religious belief and conviction” is of course hogwash. The religious belief and conviction suddenly become all wishy-washy and unmentionable when it might create bad PR.
Thus, we can conclude that the more media exposure of this practice, the sooner it will end.
So, to anyone that has a “disconnection” story — make it known. Shout it from the rooftops and to the media and elected officials and anywhere else you can. It will eventually end this inhumanity. A special shout out to Lori Hodgson, Claire Headley and Cindy Plahuta for tirelessly persisting along this line (there are many others, none of whom I intend to slight by not mentioning) as it IS the only way to bring about reform of the RCS.
Right now Tom Cruise is unknowingly performing a public service. He is not only highlighting all that is wrong with the fundamentalist Scientologists with the “dedicated glare”, he is highlighting the way Corporate Scientologists treat familial relations. And that exposure is invaluable. It also creates media interest. Way to go Tom!

Hi, Mike,
Just to let you know, I thought the A & E documentary by you and Leah Remini was excellent. I always had an interest in learning about other religions, and I first heard about scientology in the 80s because of certain celebrity followers. I confused it with christian science until I did some research on it. I was somewhat familiar with L. Ron Hubbard as a science fiction writer, but I never really liked his work. Anyway, I certainly learned enough about the controversy over the years and celebrity followers. Top Gun Tom Cruise was the stuff of my teenage fantasies, but I found Scientology Tom Cruise a big turn off. I could never understand why these women (Kidman, Holmes, Cruz) were so dumb as to get involved with this guy, but then I guess Cruise can be very mesmerizing to a starstruck young actress so forgive me for being judgmental. I was raised a Christian, but I was taught to view religion, even the fundamentalist christian religions, with a critical eye by my mother due to her own experience with my dad’s more fundamentalist beliefs. Anyway, I developed a lot of respect for Katie Holmes (and Kidman too) when she escaped Crusie/ Scientology with Suri. I know this post is a bit dated, but it certainly shows with time that Cruise did disconnect from Suri as he hasn’t been seen with her since 2013. I don’t know if this is because of direct order from DM, or his own beliefs that Suri is now a PTS. On some level, I find this sad for little Suri because it has to hurt to know her father wants nothing to do with her. Yet, it probably is for the best because Katie does not have to worry about this idiot trying to indoctrinate Suri behind her back during his visitation time. That said, I wonder if Cruise will try to reconnect with Suri when she is 18 in the hopes she will become a scientologist without Katie’s interference, or will he turn his back on her if she tries to seek him out like L. Ron Hubbard did to his daughter Alexis from his marriage to Sarah Northrup? What do you think he would do based on your experience with him? I was always curious about this.

I have a question : I know what an SP is (supressive person), but I don’t know what Mike means by a “DB SP”
Thanks
Mike Rinder says
DB stands for “Degraded Being”. It is widely used by Scientologists to describe someone who is a “lesser being” or lowlife bum in more common terms.

Thanks Mike, that clears it up nicely.

My daughter was a friend of Bella Cruise back in the days of Tom and Katie’s marriage.
For quite some time, Tom and Katie were renovating their BH home and were living in NYC, while Bella and Connor were living with Tom’s sister in an apartment in Studio City. My daughter mentioned to me that she thought the Aunt was “so mean” because the kids were never allowed out with friends, or basically live a ‘somewhat normal’ teenage life and were strictly controlled by their Aunt.
I explained to her that they were probably concerned about the security of the kids, having famous parents but then asked her why don’t they live with their mother? Meaning Nicole, of course.
My daughter said they “never speak of her” and refer to Katie as “Mom”. She made it emphatically clear that Nicole is an off limit topic and they never mention her by name, title, or anything.
I knew then that the kids were influenced to disconnect from Nicole and that Tom had obviously done so.
What a shame. Nicole always has nice things to say about Tom in her interviews, saying that he’s a “lovely person” and she had a “wonderful life” with him. Tom on the other hand, has zero to say about Nicole and stole her kids away from her too.
I believe Katie knew what was going on with the kids and Nicole but she was in the mindset of the cult (and Tom) at the time. When she woke up years later, she realized what she took part in and saw the same thing could happen to her and Suri. There is no reason why a woman would set up leaving her husband in secret with their child if they had any kind of decent relationship and level of trust. She knew there was no way she could ever trust Tom Cruise. Disaffecting children from a loving parent is cruel and hurts everyone. The children get damaged. How will it affect their future relationships and level of trust and intimacy?

Like you told me Mike:
“It’s complicated.”
See the article posted on Alex Constantine’s site:
http://www.constantinereport.com/tom-cruise-asks-court-to-force-bauer-publications-to-admit-nazi-sympathies/
Yes Tom is trying to make himself into some kinda Simon Wiesenthal or that character in Leon Uris’ QB VII. Problem for Cruise is that his BFF has embraced InterPol as “Friends” in ’93 even had ’em distributing that book on the “Scientology Religion” world wide which as we know or should is a virtual den of inveterate Nazis.
(I mean the nights we spent pouring over badly photocopied and “highlighted” (with a black marker) FOIA docs that proved this connection is another story. So we’ll skip it for now and cut to the chase…
Anyhoo…)
Not to mention the fact that it was his bud who sicced InterPol on DM1 in Columbia.
Stuff like that which isn’t going to make Tommy look at all like he’s seeking “truth, justice…etc..etc..
But in fact seem somewhat hypocritical. If he tries to tar Bauer with the Nazi brush.
Then again is the fact that in this country at least. It is very hard to prove “malice”. I believe we found this out when “we” ( since I was still in then) tried to sue Times for the Cult of Greed etc… which was getting closer to the truth than most of us knew back then.
Obviously like his historical challenged buddy. Tommy hasn’t learned this fact by now and like Einstein defines insanity is doing the same thing over expecting a different result.
If you were going to put this whole thing in a Vegas sports book. I’d say Cruise’s chances of prevailing are about 1000000/1.
‘Nuff said.

Mike Rinder – I love you, man. Your keen insight – I’m assuming from knowing that little pipsqueak for so many years – is always enlightening. Yes, TC has made an attempt to talk with his little girl everyday and sometimes, that’s all some people can do if they are being “kid blocked” by the other parent.
BUT, as you say, the bigger story is that he can still talk to her at all. What if he was told that he couldn’t stay in touch with Katie and Suri? How long would it take for him to go ballistic and tell DM to go f*@k himself?
Anyway, thanks for what you’re doing. It’s not often easy to make sense out of nonsense.
Aquamarine says
Indie8million,
I am of the opinion that TC IS being told by David Miscavige when and how he can stay in touch with Suri and Katie, who are not declared overtly with goldenrod, but who are still considered SPs.
I believe that his divorce settlement documents include detailed stipulations about his visits to Suri not only on Katie’s side but on HIS as well. I believe that one of these is that even if arranges with Katie to visit with Suri, if for any reason OSA (read DM) doesn’t like it because the timing of the visit could possibly inflict bad PR on the RCS, then TC can cancel and Katie has to accept that..
Again, this is just my opinion because I certainly have no direct knowledge, but I don’t believe that TC is free to just up and see Suri when he feels like it and Katie agrees and despite the plan conforming to their written arrangement I think he needs OSA clearance first. I think DM needs to sign off on any and all of his visits, on a case by case basis.
I think last year TC wanted to see her but OSA wouldn’t let him. I think TC is now a thoroughly controlled being, for which unhappy condition he is 100 responsible My 2 cents.

One more comment to add on this topic. My family was torn apart for decades because of disconnection and Tom Cruise gets a free pass because he’s a famous actor. I was in for 30 years and paid my money down like anyone else.
I feel inclined to lash out angrily, but really it’s more important to step back and witness the fact that there has always been arbitrary and nonsensical application of the policies on this topic. I have come to accept the fact that I contributed to this idiocy even if at a distance by supporting the church for 30 years of my life. I wrote the checks and clapped and said hip hip hooray as loud as anyone else. But when I did that, I agreed to not look, not question, not ask and not BEAR WITNESS. So I was a liar just like Tom, just like everyone else. A liar and a coward. That changed the very instant I decided my integrity was more important than anything else. So what is Tom Cruise? He’s just another liar with a bigger paycheck than me.

Of course I can say this because I have not lost anyone through disconnection, yet. My heart goes out to all who have.
Maybe if we apply HCOPL, “Current Planning”, to the enemy of families we can get this resolved sooner.

There are those of us also, who experienced the pressure from the orgs by third party, to create discord in the family. It was attempts to create infighting in the family, to sever the connection, to make scn more important that the family bonds. It was the happy accident of my early life experience, that made certain decisions, putting family first always, that created a inviolable bond and got us through. It’s a very difficult moment to realize that your church is antipathetic to your family’s well being. I thought all the dynamics were supposed to be in normal condition or above. This and the squirreling of the tech are on my short list of why I’m here.

“The fact is that disconnection was reinstated at the direct orders of LRH.”
Aha! I didn’t know that. That should be of ineffable comfort to the disconnected. They are participating in a basic, fundamental religious activity.
Doug Parent says
Interesting discussion. I had assumed what RVY had said under oath was credible, in that he was ordered to help author that policy in 1983 reinstating disconnection under LRH’s name. If this is not the case, it even muddies the waters for me even more as far as LRH is concerned and the on and off again subject of disconnection.
Sam Domingo says
The only reason Tom hasn’t fully disconnected from Katie and Suri is he’s more afraid of Katie than he is of losing his eternity. I used to feel sorry for him but I quit when I realized the only person he gives a crap about is himself.

Sorry guys, this is NOT true. The fact is that disconnection was reinstated at the direct orders of LRH. This is all around the same time as the Latam Pattern and everything else. In fact that crime of remaining connected connected to someone declared SP by HCO came from an LRH despatch of the time.
Noni Mause says

Post or not, But it’s scripture, and besides the outside world are just wogs:
He speaks truth and than aplies it when needed: Training Routine LIE
“THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CONTROL PEOPLE IS TO LIE TO THEM. You can write that down in your book in great big letters. The only way you can control anybody is to lie to them.”
– L. Ron Hubbard, “Off the Time Track,” lecture of June 1952, excerpted in JOURNAL OF SCIENTOLOGY issue 18-G, reprinted in TECHNICAL VOLUMES OF DIANETICS & SCIENTOLOGY, vol. 1, p. 418
marildi says
Cat Daddy, you need to give the whole context:
ON CONTROL AND LYING
“THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CONTROL PEOPLE IS TO LIE TO THEM. You can write that down in your book in great big letters. The only way you can control anybody is to lie to them. When you find an individual is lying to you, you know that the individual is trying to control you. One way or another this individual is trying to control you. That is the mechanism of control. This individual is lying to you because he is trying to control you – because if they give you enough misinformation they will pull you down the tone scale so that they can control you. Conversely, if you see an impulse on the part of a human being to control you, you know very well that that human being is lying to you. Not “is going to”, but “is” lying to you.
[last sentence is underlined in original]
“Check these facts, you will find they are always true. That person who is trying to control you is lying to you. He’s got to tell you lies in order to continue control, because the second you start telling anybody close to the truth, you start releasing him and he gets tougher and tougher to control. So, you can’t control somebody without telling them a bunch of lies. You will find that very often Command has this as its greatest weakness. It will try to control instead of leading. The next thing you know, it is lying to the [illegible]. Lie, lie, lie, and it gets worse and worse, and all of a sudden the thing blows up. Well, religion has done this. [Following sentence is underlined] Organised religion tries to control, so therefore must be lying. [end underline] After a while it figures out (even itself) that it is lying, and then it starts down tone scale further and further, and all of a sudden people get down along this spring-like bottom (heresy) and say, “Are we going into apathy and die, or are we going to revolt?” and they revolt, because you can only lie to people so long. Unfortunately there is always a new cycle of lying.”

Er thanks Mike for clearing that up.
But I’d just like to say dispatch smishspatch.
Doesn’t matter.
Not even the Ol’man can arbitrarily cancel his own policy. Once its been approved by the International Board.
Which was the point I was trying to make earlier when you accused me of having an affinity for unicorns and butterflies.
Yes I agree that there are contradictions like for instance two policies on Attacks on Scientology one for FSMs and the other one for the GO or vice a versa.
And times the Ol’man was spitting bullets like when Jack Horner stole C/F and Ron said if any auditor came across the lil’ ^&#$@ that they should run him on reverse processes on him etc.
Or his brilliant idea to include a Spy and His Masters AKA A Short Course on the Secret War as part of the B1 Checksheet which also included instructions for GAS members to read spy novels which discussed “the trade” and was surprised that the GO ended up pilfering Gov Docs and bugging Government offices.
I can just see the Ol’man saying to himself:
“Gee I wonder where that idea came from?”
Or maybe it was:
“Who’s idiotic idea was it to use the Government’s own Xerox?”
Or
“Can’t any of those dunder heads in B1 make an acceptable false flag?”
Yes I agree Ron wasn’t perfect but in general he was a good guy.
Also the fact is that before he started Dianetics and Scientology Ron was a spook working for the ONI and had probably learned “the craft” first hand from master spies like Stephenson code name Intrepid at the Princeton School of Government and his answer to covert ops was to launch a counter intel op.
Some part of him was running a Church while another part of him couldn’t stop playing what was called the “big game”.
Anyway.
That’s my humble opinion.
Mike Rinder says
Er, you can say whatever you want. And often do….
If you actually believe the “Ol’man” could not arbitrarily cancel his own policy and it required approval by the International Board then its not butterflies and unicorns, you should be worried about martians and FBI agents behind every bush. I was on the “international Board” — or the closest thing to approach that, the Board of Directors of CSI from 1983 til 2007. I was also on Watchdog Committee, maybe that is the “international board.” In either case, L. Ron Hubbard never consulted with or asked anyone in the church for approval, authorization or ratification of anything.
The “Ol’Man” ran the church of Scientology by despatches and verbal orders from 1979 until his death. In violation of numerous policies. Prior to 1979 there were thousands of “despatches” that had seniority over policy. Just like Miscavige, current orders take precedence over policy.
The original point you tried to make was that you are merely relating what you saw. I then said you didn’t “see those things” and you responded with “I never said I saw Jane or Mo write the LRH issues” (which was EXACTLY my point). You then argue when I explain that LRH did reimplement Disconnection.
As I have said before, I think you like to argue for argument’s sake. Some of the propositions you put forward are very strange for someone who seems intelligent.
remoteviewed says
OK Mike,
First you allude that I was being theetie wheetie now its supposedly type III.
BTW I haven’t seen an FBI agent since working at CCHR and they were doing that whole National Medical Enterprises thang.
As far as martians.
See ’em all the time when I watch those old ’50’s Sci Fi Flicks.
The following:
“The “Ol’Man” ran the church of Scientology by despatches and verbal orders from 1979 until his death. In violation of numerous policies. Prior to 1979 there were thousands of “despatches” that had seniority over policy. Just like Miscavige, current orders take precedence over policy.”
The above in itself is a violation of the “scriptures” (I use the word since you mentioned CST) which say that Policy is senior to orders of any kind, even those issued by the Ol’man.
Not to mention the fact that it creates a Hidden Data Line.
Who knows maybe as you suggest the Ol’man was getting squirrelly and rather senile in his old age or as I suspect many of these orders and dispatches were issued by someone else using “R” at the end of the Telex or Merc.
But anyhoo.
The fact is there are people who also say that Ron said to do this or that and to put it mildly are full of shit like for example he who shall not be mentioned.
Then there are those policies that allegedly have the Ol’man’s signature which are off the wall fucking crazy like the one having auditors turn the PC in to HCO for giving of withholds in session that he was waiting for session to get off.
Oh please.
You know what most of the auditors I knew did when we saw that policy?
We ignored it. Since it was a violation of the Auditors Code.
So what if it was Green on White and seemed genuine.
Then of course there are those who *think* or *interpret* that Ron said something when in fact he did not.
For example the whole “Fair Game” thang.
In the actual policy he says “Can be….” whatever. He doesn’t say “Should be…”.
Then there is the time Ron issues the Major Grades processes in one comprehensive HCOB. Do he say that Orgs should stop delivering the full grades?
No!
But it is interpreted as such and so we end up with “Quickie Grades”
Same thing less than a decade later when the “End of Endless Training” comes out Ron issues an issue with the Major grades processes for *training auditors* yet its used in the HGCs and again people think we can forget about auditing the whole Grade Chart.
Anyhoo
Why would the Ol’man issue ‘Orders, Illegal and Cross’, before that the ‘Seniority of Orders’ and before that ‘Orders; Query of’ and put “policy” above “orders” in the Admin Scale and say several times that policy is senior to orders if he expected Scientologists just to follow his or anyone else’s random random orders?
Yeah true the Ol’man had his faults but in a lot of cases in my opinion there are those who have gone totally Nuremberg and then blame the Ol’man because they were forced to or just decided to follow some idiotic order that even a moron could see was in violation of Church policy.
Yeah since you mentioned it Ron says in the VIII materials to use a GF to bring the TA down. Yet any auditor who uses a GF to bring a TA down these days is an idiot.
He also says in the earlier materials that its best to audit a PC when he is ext. Yet any auditor who would even think of auditing past ext these days would get a cramming order in a Standard HGC that had a Standard Qual (something that’s totally missing these days) that would be so big it would include a table of contents!
In the end it requires Personal Integrity and being able to think with the data and knowing what works and what doesn’t and the ability to differentiate to actually apply Scientology.
Not robotically following orders. No matter who issued them.
Mike Rinder says
You set forth the answer your own rhetorical questions. Why would the “Ol’man” issue so many contradictory things?
Funny, you are so smart as to not follow anything robotically, but you are extremely robotic in your arguments. Something that disproves your assertions “probably wasn’t written by LRH.” If I say it “couldn’t be” as it wasnt approved by the “International Board” (that has never existed). Or it’s just a misinterpretation of Fair Game because the “ol’man” never said anything like that — but really he did say many things like that, including “they would be run over by a Mack truck, and I don’t mean figuratively.” Or then there are “those policies that allegedly have the Ol’man’s signature which are off the wall fucking crazy” followed by “Oh please.” Like “everyone knows” that you would be an idiot to think that L. Ron Hubbard wrote anything that didnt make perfect sense…. There is always an excuse/reason/explanation based on some supposition or “could have been” that rationalizes it.
Like I said earlier, you are free to believe what you want. And I pretty much let you say what you want as you are polite and generally your views aren’t offensive to the public I am interested in reaching with this blog. But there are often things you say that are just not true. Though if I ever offer any information that contradicts anything you say, I know it is going to start an endless back and forth unless I just ignore it.
You don’t seem willing to accept that there is information that you DONT have.
That’s unfortunate. I am not responding because I enjoy the time engaging in what are silly arguments with you.
I am simply tying to get the truth known.
Give my regards to the butterflies an unicorns.

“You set forth the answer your own rhetorical questions. Why would the “Ol’man” issue so many contradictory things?”
Actually if you look at my comments Mike they are merely speculation.
Not answers.
“Funny, you are so smart as to not follow anything robotically, but you are extremely robotic in your arguments. Something that disproves your assertions “probably wasn’t written by LRH.””
Not really.
“If I say it “couldn’t be” as it wasnt approved by the “International Board” (that has never existed).”
From HCO POLICY LETTER OF 5 MARCH 1965 Issue II
POLICY: SOURCE OF:
“A “policy letter” is not Scientology org policy unless written or authorized by L. Ron Hubbard and passed as a resolution or covered by blanket resolution of the International Board and issued or published by an HCO. It is not policy if any of those steps are missing.
“The International Board is composed of three Board Members, L. Ron Hubbard, Chairman, Mary Sue Hubbard, Secretary, and Marilynn Routsong, Treasurer. It is the controlling board of Scientology.”
“Or it’s just a misinterpretation of Fair Game because the “ol’man” never said anything like that — but really he did say many things like that, including “they would be run over by a Mack truck, and I don’t mean figuratively.” ”
The fact that he never did that proves my point.
It was as you like to call what I write at times, rhetoric.
“Or then there are “those policies that allegedly have the Ol’man’s signature which are off the wall fucking crazy” followed by “Oh please.” Like “everyone knows” that you would be an idiot to think that L. Ron Hubbard wrote anything that didnt make perfect sense…. There is always an excuse/reason/explanation based on some supposition or “could have been” that rationalizes it.”
He’ll I’ll admit the Ol’man wrote and said some things that would be considered “bat shit crazy” by your average “wog”. Like fer instance “The Role of Earth” and “Between Lives Implants” (ya know the one Mr. Miscknowitall denied vehemently to Ted Koppel didn’t exist) or many of the HCOBs on the SHSBC about R6 Implants.
But technically what he said or wrote pretty much made sense and it worked whereas turning your PC over to the EO or MAA for waiting until they got in session to get off a withhold doesn’t on both counts.
Here I’ll refer to HCO BULLETIN OF 24 JANUARY 1977 TECH CORRECTION ROUND-UP:
Auditors and Scientologists for 27 years have tended to be suspicious of HCOBs and Policy Letters not written by myself.
Until a few months ago my opinion was that this, while flattering, was not en- tirely justified.
However, these last few months have sharply changed my belief into total agree- ment with all those who have expressed some fear of reinterpretations of bulletins by others.
I have been engaged for some months now in a round-up of out tech issues.
And I have found, I am sorry to say, that mice have been gnawing at the pillars of the Bridge, putting up traffic barriers and false detour signs.
I have been finding serious out tech issues and correcting them.
Whether because of misunderstood words (the commonest cause of out tech alter- ations) or other reasons, there have been a staggering number of tech sectors that have been corrupted by issues by others that alter-ised.
The corrections I have been doing have been, are being or will be issued shortly. However, not all auditors and Scientologists keep pace with current issues and so I am here giving you a rapid summary of the gross departures from standard tech which have occurred in the past 3 or 4 years and their corrections.
So you were right!
A very few people (3 or 4) have wittingly or unwittingly brought about outnesses which could easily make the difference between successful case handling and failed cases.
Action has been taken to handle them and there are a great many good people at work now in compiling and reissuing the workable tech which I developed in the first place.
It is now forbidden to write an HCOB or an HCO PL and sign my name to it.
If anyone helped compile it or wrote it, my name is followed by “Assisted by_____” the person who helped get it back together at my directions.
Also no Board Technical Bulletin may cancel an HCOB. So from here on you are relatively safe.
I am always the first to tell you and this is no exception.
TECH CORRECTIONS 274
There follows here a long list of incorrect procedures or data found to have been issued.
Also a brief rundown of the correct procedure will be found, which is the correct and standard tech.
What makes tech correct? When it doesn’t get results it is incorrect. When it gets the expected result it is correct.
“Like I said earlier, you are free to believe what you want. And I pretty much let you say what you want as you are polite and generally your views aren’t offensive to the public I am interested in reaching with this blog. But there are often things you say that are just not true. Though if I ever offer any information that contradicts anything you say, I know it is going to start an endless back and forth unless I just ignore it.”
As you know from reading SOS there are different levels of “truth” and “truth” can be quite malleable according to the PR Series there is an “acceptable truth”.
Aside from that Mike.
No one has a monopoly on the truth.
Many of the times I say things that you say are “untrue” either because I was misinformed or did not have all the facts.
(Like the TRD which it turns out was not an OSA Op but run through HCO)
That said there are things that I say that are true and that you don’t seem to want to acknowledge like the *documented* use of Scientology OT technology by the IC.
Or the well *documented* fact that the Church of Scientology was indeed being infiltrated by informants and Agent Provocateurs and that to suspect that Meisner and Wolfe were possibly two example is not some paranoid delusion.
Christ Franks so much admitted on Public Radio on the Program Democracy Now that he was an informant for the FBI.
Not to mention all the solid research done by Omar Garrison in his two books Hidden Story and Playing Dirty.
“You don’t seem willing to accept that there is information that you DONT have.”
Not true!
I am totally willing to accept information I don’t have. But the old story of the Ol’man hiding out at Creston and secretly running Scientology exclusively by R-Advices has pretty much been told on ARS back in the day that its gotten old.
“That’s unfortunate. I am not responding because I enjoy the time engaging in what are silly arguments with you.”
Ok.
I’m sorry.
That was my bad.
All I can say it was in response to an earlier Donny Brook we had earlier when you accused me of thinking it was all “butterflies an unicorns” implying that I was somehow theety wheetie for somehow not agreeing with you that Ron was not the reincarnation of Black Beard or even suggesting that Miscavige was doing the same thing as the Ol’man by ruling by decree.
There is absolutely no comparison between him and Ron except maybe in his own mind!
In this cases differences are so different that there isn’t even an incidental similarity.
I mean you could say that like Ron he’s a man.
But in this case I agree with the Robertson crowd and suspect he is an alien life form.
“I am simply tying to get the truth known.”
Yes but….
In my opinion the truth has many aspects and multiple viewpoints.
Not one person knows the whole truth. Not even Ron.
“Give my regards to the butterflies an unicorns.”
Funny that’s what certain members of the GO and HCO used to accuse me of when I refused to dig up dirt on PC’s for ’em.
Not in those exact words but pretty close.
Ya know I was one of those “Theety Wheetie Tech Guyz” as if caring more for the PC than the ominous Organization was more important.
Bull shit!
If it wasn’t for gaining the PCs trust and keeping it there would no Organization ominous or otherwise.
A graphic example is what’s going down now.
Sure some of it could be Miscavige or some shadowy Government Conspiracy but it is mostly due to a lack of trust.
How can you trust an organization that spills your deepest darkest secrets?
You may be able to keep those you have in line by coercion, extortion and black mail but the public in general will repel ya like the plague.
Well Mike it’s been nice having this discussion and I promise to follow a more polite discussion format.
My apologies if I upset you and I will try to apply my Auditors Code in the future.

Well I wasn’t thinking of auditing you I was just thinking of applying the Auditors Code for my own personal reasons.
But if you do want some auditing. I’d be happy to give you some.
I clearly don’t have it all figured out. I wish I did but I don’t.
As far as I’m concerned to use an auditing analogy it’s still an incomplete list.
So if I seem surely at times it’s because I haven’t found *my* item.
Hey even with all the arguing and that we’ve done. I feel more like I’m family here than I’ve felt anywhere else on the Web.
Mike.
Even though we may disagree at times. It doesn’t mean I don’t love ya.
Take care Bro.

Mike, you seem to have hit a new stride in your writing and it’s becoming more powerful by each succeeding post. Very well done, in all respects. And your direct knowledge and experience with the Unnamed One is of inestimable value to all of us. I was out by the time of the Great Mission Debacle and had never heard of him and, for years, had no idea of his existence, much less his lifetime passion of destruction of others. So you’ve served as something of a “gateway” due to that personal connection you had. I thank you for it and hope you are reunited with your family asap.

Hollywood, in general, is much less forgiving of such stupidity than is Herr Incompetence. Tom is going to see the scripts and the money disappear. As more and more of his shenanigans are exposed, no one in the industry will wish to be smeared with the same brush. Worse, the public will ignore his films, the true kiss of death. It will be a long lonely life for him, peopled only by the kind of men and women who covet his bank accounts.
Mildred Ratched (@anne_sades34) says
Aside from the points you made, what I find most ironic is that Tom participated in alienating his older children against their mom, and when the media bashed her for “abandoning” her kids and praised Tom and Katie for picking up Nicole’s slack, he did nothing to defend her. He knew full well she hadn’t abandoned them but could never defend herself.
Hallie Jane says
I noticed that too Mildred. There is nothing less classy than someone not speaking well of their spouse, even their exspouse, when the well being of children are involved. It spoke volumes to me. What a tool.
Meg R says
I think Nicole handled herself with dignity. I appreciate that the truth has come out.
SILVIA says
Yes, the media is eating him alive with all the arrogant statements he stated. Playing the victim didn’t work. His career took a huge slump.
But the point here is to use this to make known the abuses of disconnection others have suffered while this character – TC – is ‘forgiven’ from it just because…whatever.
Kevin Tighe says
What got my dander up and prompted my post on Tony’s site was Mr. Eyes Wide Shut wants the truth to be known about his relationship with his daughter yet in the deposition he thought he could dance around the disconnection issue by telling the lawyer she was trying to over simply the matter. Of course the lawyer nailed Eyes Wide Shut but good.
As an aside it occurred to me that Mr. Eyes Wide Shut has probably done more than any single person or institution to educate the general public on the destructive nature of Scientology’s disconnection policy and Scientology in general. I’m not being tongue in cheek. Look at Google’s 48 hour news feed graph. As 5pm yesterday 400 news outlets were covering the story.
Starman8 says
Kevin, an off topic question: you made a comment on Tony’s site about bankruptcies, and as a former Miami public you got me real curious about that subject with regard to Miami. We saw people who were quite borderline coerced into donating, and I’ve been waiting for the shit to hit the fan. In particular, one public put their warehouse buildings up as collateral for a multi-part loan, and I can’t imagine parts of that didn’t go bust.
Bruce
Benjamin says
Today’s post is very important to so many people. The non-disconnection that Tom Cruise enjoys is what will bring more attention to Miscavige’s cult and all the hurt that is out there because of him.
Critics have been saying for years and years, this cult hurts families.
Sheldon Goldberg says
What a colossal blunder filing this lawsuit. I doubt there were many sane people that thought he really abandoned his daughter. But, the attorney NAILED him with the fact that he managed to get to the IAS event.
And what about the media jumping on his statement comparing his job to Afghanistan? He probably didn’t mean it literally, but the damage is definitely done. There 250 stories on Google News from the last 2 days about Cruise and the deposition. I’d say 110% of them are negative.
I know what it’s like to be divorced and thousands of miles from your kids when they were very young. I assure you, it’s incredibly upsetting. But, he doesn’t come off as a sympathetic character, at all. It’s hard to really feel for him.
This is all about Tom shooting Tom.
Richard Grant (@richardgrant) says
That’s a really key point, Sheldon: this IS an inherently painful human situation, even without the added suffering of forced disconnection (which is downright criminal). Cruise COULD come off as a sympathetic figure, if only because there are so many parents who might identify with him.
But no. He manages to turn this into an “all about Tom” affair where the average person, I should think, ends up feeling that Suri is better off without him.
Aquamarine says
Actually, there really wasn’t much that TC could truthfully say. He really is between a rock and a hard place. He can’t admit that DM didn’t want him to see Suri publicly at a time too close to the IAS Event. He can’t say that although Suri is not a declared SP that still he has to get clearance from OSA and DM in order to visit his own daughter. He can’t say that he’s been ordered to sue because of the wording (“Abandoned”) in the headline, which makes also the RCS looks bad. There is just so much that he cannot say because this lawsuit is about the RCS looking bad, essentially. With this lawsuit TC is walking a tightrope for the RCS’s sake and there’s almost nothing he can say which doesn’t make the church look bad, and himself like an arrogant religious fanatic.
LDW says
It’s my humble opinion that any time in the future that the absurd antics of miscavige and/or his minions get in front of a jury of normal people, miscavige will lose…and lose big. Miscavige is obviously setting up his entire legal strategy to craft a scenario where every potential case gets thrown out, while bankrupting the plaintiff. He’s just about played every card there is to play in order to ensure he never sees the inside of a courtroom. Plaintiff attorneys are now wise to every potential trick. The rebuttals will become faster from future plaintiffs, cost less money and time to file and will be utlimately victorious because at this point the plaintiffs hold the “truth” card and miscavige’s lies are becoming more and more desperate.
Your own deposition in the Garcia case is one such strong refuting of Co$ (miscavige) lies.
In Tom’s case, he’s going to need to lie to win. His dramatization of miscavige’s valence might be met with merely a sneer in the tabloids. But it will destroy him in the courts. His actions are too much dictated by the valence he’s assumed. The valence is now fully associated with the church. Tom is fully associated with the church. No jury is going to buy into the victim plea of these arrogant asses.
Checkmate is imminent.
Aquamarine says
Mike, this is an excellent article. I read Kevin Tighe’s lucid, fair and utterly honest response to TC’s whining in the deposition – wow. So glad you’ve taken this up.
I noticed TC’s bobbing and weaving, his refusal to answer the actual questions. I kept waiting for the attorney to point out that he wasn’t actually answering what had been asked.
Hopefully, when it goes to court the magazine’s attorneys will not let TC get away with fluffing off precise questions as he was allowed to do in his deposition.

^^^ THIS IS WHY ^^^ Disconnection and the other abuses is why I fight.
Tom Cruise HAS disconnected from Katie and in turn Suri. Period. Every so often he pulls out his “prop” (Suri) to stage some Photo Ops with Paparazzi. All in the name of PR. He did not bother whisking her off to the Hamptons or Disney World until the media storm. Then he made sure there were plenty of photos – jumping on the helicopter, playing in the pool……. Now he is mad b/c his little PR scheme didn’t work.
The man is a major control freak – he’s obviously playing games with Katie and Suri. Like you said, he’s not going to let “That SP” tell him what to do (or even think for herself). I thought he must have been up to something last summer when suddenly the media frenzy about Katie enrolling Suri in a private Catholic girls school…. Controlling husbands HATE IT when their wives (ex-wives) stand up to them.
Interesting that Mr. Cruise hasn’t deposed Ms. Holmes to prove he did not abandon his daughter… Wonder why? Who better than the child’s mother to know?
Big Being III has the “option” to stay connected to his child. Something denied to all other Scientologists. I cannot imagine how hard it is for parents to lose a child unwilling to this enforced policy. Then to watch a “special” person be given a pass. Then, to act as he has really rubs salt in the wound.
My heart breaks for all of you who have suffered from disconnection.
Hallie Jane says
These events also show how out of it Tom is/was. He seemed to have no idea, that his wife was so unhappy, to spring a divorce on him. That says a lot about his ability to perceive and care of his marriage. His lower conditions are showing.
Rita Gregory says
Tom has cooked his own goose and the cupboard is empty. Hopefully the bad PR generated by him will put an end not only to the inhumane practice of disconnection but to the CO$ itself. May that day come soon for you Mike and all the others subjected to it’s evil practice.
Noni Mause says
Agree completely, Mike. The Cruise deposition is bad for RCS whichever way you look at it.
Disconnection is abhorrent and the policy should be 86’d immediately. What I wonder from a pragmatic level is – How can scientology do this ? Wouldn’t that be tantamount to saying Hubbard got something wrong? Wouldn’t that cause somewhat of a crisis of faith for people (eg if he got something so important so wrong, couldnt he also have been wrong about other things?). Also, wouldn’t tossing that policy out also have knock on effects? E.g. the whole SP/PTS thing would need to be looked at too, wouldn’t it? (Having to find some new way to ‘handle’ SP’s?). How would getting rid of the policy be able to be achieved in practice?
Ronnie Bell says
How can scientology do this ? Wouldn’t that be tantamount to saying Hubbard got something wrong? Wouldn’t that cause somewhat of a crisis of faith for people…?
Hubbard canceled the policy of Disconnection decades ago. It didn’t cause a crisis of faith for Scientologists of the time. The Old Man saw that it was causing more harm to the organization than good, so out it went. The practice (if not the policy) was resurrected by others after Hubbard died.
Cat Daddy says
“Sorry guys, this is NOT true. The fact is that disconnection was reinstated at the direct orders of LRH. This is all around the same time as the Latam Pattern and everything else. In fact that crime of remaining connected connected to someone declared SP by HCO came from an LRH despatch of the time.
Mike rinder
mwesten says
I have read numerous reports from people who were forced to disconnect from people in the 70s. The practice clearly never ceased, despite a policy of cancellation. I believe if Hub had meant it to cease it would have.
Hasn’t it always been a “suppressive act” not to disconnect from someone declared SP by HCO?
Haven’t Mike and Marty already confirmed Hubbard was behind it’s official reinstatement?
Some of the tech and a smidge of policy are cool but call a spade a spade. The old man was a total c**t.
Meg R says
I do not believe that Ron actually cancelled the policy, just like he never truly cancelled sec checking or fair game.
Carcha says
No. This is why I urge people to look at things as they actually are, and not hang themselves on misconceptions and “hot bullet talking points” and Hubbard-bashing. The principle is very simple: if you know what you are doing, you stand a much better chance of succeeding.
Again, as much as the MOB may wish to ridicule it and find tiny, tiny little outpoints then make this Grand Canyon Jump to the conclusion Hubbard was a megalomaniac and a greedy cult-leader, That is false. That completely ignores and refutes that the original policy was twisted out of all proportion by the current management of the Co$. (“Outpoints” is Scientology tech, by the way, and the MOB uses it out of one side of their foul mouths while at the same time denigrating it out of the other side.)
Disconnection was in its original form a rare last resort to assist someone who was doing well and was happy with auditing and training, but kept getting derailed.
Disconnection was a last resort for someone entrapped – like a street-whore is entrapped by a pimp who beats and coerces and extorts her – by a truly evil individual in a situation which is very obviously BAD for them. In Scientology it meant that someone who gains from auditing and study, but is constantly losing their gains as fast as they make them, is in close association with someone who constantly tells them they are foolish, deluded, and have gained nothing, specifically targeting their involvement in Scientology.
Maybe you can relate this to someone who is Catholic, who is constantly faced with an atheist friend who never relents in ridiculing Catholicism? Or to someone who had trouble in their lives, became a born-again Christian, and seems to be doing better – except for a “friend’ who makes their involvement in Christianity their favorite target for ridicule?
Maybe you can relate it to someone who decides to participate in Anonymous, and is constantly faced with warnings from their “friend” about how it is an illegal underground which only escapes arrest by running and hiding like cowards, afraid to show their faces in public, terrorist computer hackers with nothing better to do than destroy the society that accidentally spawned them? How long would YOU keep such a person as a “friend” – before you voluntarily disconnected from them? Huh? Huh? Huh?
If you kept bothering your friends in Anonymous with questions about whether they were legal or in fact criminals, how long would you remain “friends” with them? How many times would someone have to explain things to you, if you kept getting news and little tiny, tiny outpoints like some fringe Anonymous guy who in fact did hack a database illegally, thus proving the “criminal nature” of ALL Anons?
I haven’t actually laid into you or Anonymous directly here. I haven’t told you you’re nuts, or associating with a “black fringe element” which was actually created by a subversive in Bulgaria under close KGB supervision with the intent of destabilizing social order. I haven’t insulted you, or questioned your view of reality. Yet some people in Anonymous somehow feel it is their God-given prerogative to insult me and tell me what I have or have not seen.
The phrase is “handle or disconnect” and the disconnection policy is an assurance to the individual that they will be supported by the people in the organization seeking to facilitate their own efforts to better their conditions. Usually, the situation can be “handled” through communication and getting facts straight, but in some instances, all that falls on deaf ears, and the abuse continues because the abuser sees their “patsy” slipping out of their grasp.
That’s pretty damn clear, and anyone who cannot get that in its original form is intentionally not looking because the facts would interfere with their ulterior motives or with their MOB madness. If I say I gain from my involvement with Scientology, and you say I have not, I would handle you by asking you what you actually know of Scientology? Are you opposed to my attempts to better my life? Do you not see that my life is improving? Usually, that is more than sufficient to get someone who is skeptical and genuinely interested in one’s life to notice that perhaps they are doing better. So you get a bland kind of, “Well, if it works for you, I guess I shouldn’t say anything.” That’s a “handle,” and there is no need at all to disconnect from them.
You say you stand for freedom of speech and freedom of religion, yet practice the opposite by simply denigrating Hubbard. Get your facts straight, and don’t play ring-around-the-rosies shouting about how I am the one who needs to get my facts straight because I’m obviously deluded and out of it. Go condescend to yourself.
Get the facts straight. If you don’t, you just end up looking stupid (to yourself, as well), but more importantly, you reduce your own effectiveness.
Mike Rinder says
George — good comment and I concur with your sentiments about the original purpose of disconnection and that it was “handle or disconnect.”
That it has been perverted beyond recognition today as a tool of control is beyond question.
That the effort to control people through disconnection had NOTHING to do with LRH is also not correct.
There are a lot of subtleties and shade of gray in this whole picture. It’s neither black (Hubbard was a total con man) nor white (Hubbard was perfect and his word is ALWAYS right).
Thanks for your perspective. It’s always appreciated.
Zana says
I’ve been asking this from the very beginning… why is he not DISCONNECTED from Suri if all the other parents are disconnected from THEIR children? This needs to be made VERY public now. What a jerk. Is he so stupid and thick that he doesn’t know what he is standing for? And what a liar he is… to himself and the world?
What is this crap about being a good daddy when all the other fathers (and mothers) are longing to see their children and the alienation and grief they are being put through is life destroying. !?
I hope to see this ALL come out in the courts and in the public eye. ALL of it.
Hallie Jane says
This is another example of the classic double standard that is applied to certain people in the rcs. It’s usually people with some type of fame or with lots of money. There’s some hidden line where they get special treatment. I was rejected for OTVII while others with the same supposed outpoint were on the level. It’s a part of the shift from auditors being important to money being ALL that is important. It’s the duplicity, the substitute of the real product of scn, for a fake appearance of success that has taken over. It’s the epitome of aberration, a circuitous line.
otfive8 says
“There’s some hidden line where they get special treatment”.
Totally right, and it is indeed about “lots of money”. The RCS is now patterning itself after many wog organizations, especially private schools and colleges.
I personally know a married couple who are being honored by an expensive prep school. The husband’s familyhas regularly donated large sums to the school. He was valedictorian, but his wife, who is being honored with him, went to the same school and quit at 16 to become a model. Being that she is a former student who dropped out of their own school, you’d think the school would ignore her and concentrate on the husband but noooo, together they are also big donors and the school will not risk insulting the husband by ignoring the wife, so she will be right up there with her husband and will receive some kind of an award, which is amusing, because, though very attractive and American born into her own wealthy family, she is barely literate. Its all about money..

It is so true that Tom Cruise is in DM’s valence. When I was still on staff and the zealous TC video was shown to us, I couldn’t believe it! He was so much like Dm that I literally wondered if the same thetan was operating both bodies. (I remembered that LRH said somewhere this is possible.)

Ironically, by bringing this lawsuit to ostensibly demonstrate that he is a caring father, Cruise has now made sworn statements under oath demonstrating that he is anything but. He testified that he went many months without seeing Suri, he put partying and IAS events ahead of her, and he had to admit that there are issues involving Suri and auditing, and “windowless rooms.” Just like his BFF, his strategic reasoning is extremely faulty– and his lawyers will never tell him otherwise. Cruise’s life is somewhat Shakespearean, he surrounded by sycophants and an evil jealous Iago. In fact, Miscavige/Iago is so jealous of Cruise, we may have to start asking when was the last time Miscavige and Cruise were in the same room together, and when was the last time anyone actually saw Miscavige?
Zana says
Great analogy. Iago!! Of course. And he lost his Desdemona. ! Great metaphor.

Right on the money Mike. I am in awe of Lori and others and the tireless campaigning they do. I was relatively “lucky” in that I was the only immediate family member in Scientology, but the heartbreak for my eldest daughter continues. Disconnection has no place in a civilized society, and as we all know, is only there is a blunt instrument to keep the remaining sheeple ignorant. However this strategy is proving to be as effective as a DM slap. The Titanic has been holed below the water line and as Andrews, the ship’s designer, said in the film to an incredulous Ismay who was protesting that she can’t possibly sink “She is made of iron Sir, I assure you, she can and she will”. Corp Scientology is made of Miscavige and it will sink too – that’s also a mathematical certainty.
GoVoluntary says
“Corp. Scientology is made of Miscavige and it will sink too –that’s also a mathematical certainty.”
Very true, with the caveat that Miscavige is the virtually inevitable result pf wjat LRH put in place.
DollarMorgue says
Yes, thank you Tom. Although this is not what you intended, andy more than what DM intended with his attacks on Monique Rathbun, it is showing the world fundamentalist Scientology in its full glory.
Fundamentalism is never pretty, no matter what dress it wears. As long as Scientology is practiced with such an attitude, it will remain a shrinking, insular cult, whether corporate or no.
I hope the media picks up the disconnection angle.
1subgenius says
Mike, a tear came to my eye when you reminded us that you are suffering from the evil policy of disconnection.
My sense of hope tells me that one day you will be reunited.
Keep up the good work.
Mark Fisher says
Thanks Mike. Excellent summary.
I also took from reading his deposition that Tom Cruise under oath admitted that Scientology does in fact practice disconnection, which Tommy Davis swore to high heavens on every TV show he could, that it was a lie and doesn’t happen. We all know it is true, but having the “most famous” Scientologist acknowledge it in a legal deposition sure does pull the rug out from under that argument by Church spokespeople. All the media has to do to undermine it, is pull out Cruise’s deposition.
The deposition also shows that Cruise has been taking legal strategy advice from his BFF with the attempts by Cruise’s attorneys to “attack the attacker” by insinuating that they used Nazi war prisoners to publish their magazines and stories of the like. Cruise stating that he was “unaware” of this is a joke.
Some were wondering if Cruise will show up or not at the GAT2 and Super Power release now because of this negative publicity. My opinion, is if he doesn’t show up, it will undermine DM and his position with all the active OT’s and big donors who are at the event when they don’t see the “most famous” Scientologist in the world and DM’s BFF.
That would create too much damage for DM. I hope Cruise stays away for that reason, but I bet DM makes sure that Cruise makes some sort of appearance to maintain the dog and pony show.
Cruise dug his own grave with this lawsuit, as you well know and state above. Better to have ignored it. Now that he is in deposition, he is toast. Same for DM. Once he is in deposition in Mosey’s or any future case, a good attorney like the one the magazine has, will tear him apart with the inconsistencies and prove DM to be a liar of the first degree.
That’s why he will try and avoid testifying at almost any cost in my opinion.
Not only does it suck to be Miscavige, but it sucks to be Tom Cruise too. His career is heading down the drain.
Jethro Bodine says
Good points Mark. It occured to me while reading your comment that perhaps the reason for the last minute scheduling is that they hard to fit the grand opening of Souper Powers and GAG 2 and the IAS event around Tom Cruise’s movie schedule so that Cruise could make a special appearance. After all, how could you have such an important event without the “most dedicated Scientologist on the planet” making an appearance.
One thing that struck me while reading Tom Cruise’s deposition is the amount of arrogance and “righteous indigination” he displayed. For instance, when the attorney asked Cruise whether Suri was still “practicing Scientology”, he responded:
“Cruise: Here’s again, when you say “practiced Scientology,” it shows a lack of understanding and respect towards my religion….It shows a lack of respect and understanding for my religion. ”
Give me an effin’ break. There is nothing disrespectful about asking someone if they still practice a religion. For Scientology, it would mean going to course to learn how to be an auditor and getting auditing. However, Cruise’s BFF, has got the current scene in the C of S so twisted and preverted that “practicing Scientology” has been reduced to going to Fundraiser’s and reading the basic books. Of course, Cruise wouldn’t know as the IAS registrars are forbidden from showing up unannounced at his home at 3 AM. Tom Cruise gets “preferential treatment”, to put it mildly, so doesn’t know how the typical Scientologists lives.

For your sake as well, Mike, I hope disconnection is abolished. I know you have family you don’t get to see. It honestly makes me sad.
However, I do in one way hope they do not end this practice, as I want the church itself to be abolished, and for that we need every nail we can pound into their coffin. When the church is brought down disconnection will end itself.
The sooner the church is gone, the better.
Mike Rinder says
Believe me, if disconnection is abolished, the church will be gone soon thereafter. For a LOT of people it is the ONLY thing that is keeping them “in line.”

I’m sure that’s what is keeping some of the biggest whales in line and writing checks.

I think coming to whales it’s the ego, self Importance and sucking up to them what keeps them in as Big Thetans

That’s a great point! It’s as if “Disconnection” is the mortar holding the house of cards together.
Hallie Jane says
True that! What would be an equal quantity of pressure against “your eternity”? The love of family of course. And the present time problems, goals and the mass it generates begins. This is the definition of stress. No wonder so many rcs’ers are in observably poor condition.

That’s real to me.

There is an excellent, anonymous, comment at The Bunker today, reflecting on the CoS version of ‘ethics’ and the role of DM. Here is an excerpt:
“However inside Scientology, and especially in the Sea Org, “ethics” means precisely this: “removing counter intention” to Scientology in all matters. Specifically, it means removing counter intention (CI) to Hubbard’s red on white auditing tech found in the Tech Volumes, and the green on white administrative tech found in the OEC volumes. (There are other writing’s from Hubbard, including the vast SIR database of “Advices” that are in many ways senior to the Tech and Admin volumes, but for simplicity this explanation is satisfactory.)
If Scientology auditing tech and admin tech were “fully in” on a global scale, Scientology would effectively rule the planet and everyone on it. Because this outcome seems so unlikely to the average person, it is easy to dismiss it as incredible and silly. However the outcome of Scientology ruling the planet is EXACTLY what Scientology senior management is trying to make happen. And it has been this way ever since Hubbard set the plan in motion with his Organizational Volumes which spell it all out, step by step.
Underlying the absurdity of the “ethics” tech of “removing counter intention” is the idea that David Miscavige is the ultimate “ecclesiastical leader” of the church. David Miscavige is also the de facto final authority on virtually all significant business, financial, technical, and legal matters inside the church, as well as all significant related external matters that affect the relations of the church with outsiders, especially the court system.
While it is a tautological absurdity to say it, if Miscavige is not the final authority, that means the matter is not important. If the matter IS important, Miscavige has final approval authority. No Scientologist in good standing would dispute this, unless they were operating on a “shore story” for the purposes of deceiving others. “

Re: your observation that the intended outcome would be Scientology ruling the planet: When I was still in, at a certain point in time I envisioned a world run run by the Church of Scientology, and asked myself if I would want to live in such a world. The answer was an immediate “no way.” Then I ran for the hills.

Very well stated, Mike. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis.

Perhaps there will be louder Boos at the next sports venue when he gets shown on the big screen at the stadium, for him to get the message and acknowledgement from the real world.

Truthfully, I don’t think he has the mental powers in the first place, nor the cojones to follow through even if he did. His stature in the czerch and is (failing) stature in films are far too important to him.

Most of us have traveled TC’s current path in one degree or another while being a part of the church. We’ve written KRs on family and friends exposing their personal lives. Or disconnected from good people because we thought it was the right thing to do. Or we donated all of our savings leaving ourselves with very little to live on because we simply wanted to help, and believed some nebulous form of karma would give back.
Tom is doing little different as an individual than most of us have. The difference is we have opened our eyes to what is wrong or immoral, hence the reason for being here. Personally, it was a hard path coming out. I not only lost my church and parts of my religion but had to face up to the truth of who I had been, that at times, were unbecoming of a religious person.
I feel sad for Tom Cruise. He will have a lot to face up to when the day comes. And it will come.

That was so well said and heart felt. I could feel the caring and compassion coming through your words. Seems the more you gave and the more dedication you had, the harder the recovery. I am still mending from the ordeal. My hope is one day to have my life fully returned to me.
I fully agree that Tom will have a long row to hoe in order to fully recover.

So true, Anon. We have all been guilty of the “holier than thou” attitude with people who dared to question Scientology or the org, to one degree or another.
Funny about Tom right now is that he hasn’t the presence of mind to LOOK, like so many other Scientologists. If he would only look to see what Katie and so many others are objecting to and really got what was happening, he would be PISSED OFF at being taken for a ride by his BFF.
The best thing he can do is leave his “too-close-for-comfort” relationship with David Miscavige and spend time with his ex-wife and daughter. His PR would turn around immediately.
And maybe, in the process, he would cognite on who his friends really are and come out of Treason, Enemy, Doubt and Liability for good. One can only hope.
