Scientology has constantly attacked Leah and I for testifying in the Paul Haggis civil case where he was accused of raping a woman. The plaintiff never reported it to law enforcement, instead sending a demand for payment in exchange for her silence. Paul was the one who reported this to law enforcement and was told there was nothing they could do about it. The jury didn’t know all of this as it was precluded from the case. Leah and I testified about our knowledge of scientology’s Fair Game tactics (including how other people like Paulette Cooper and Gabe Cazares had been framed for crimes they didn’t commit) and our personal experiences with Paul.
Subsequent to the verdict in the case, finding Paul liable, scientology has gone to great lengths to smear us (especially Leah) as “rape apologists,” demanding that we “apologize” and “condemn the rapist.”
This was NOT a criminal prosecution. It was a civil case, demanding money.
On the other hand, the Danny Masterson case was a criminal trial and he now sits in prison awaiting his sentencing after being found guilty of raping two women who were scientologists at the time.
Dany Masterson, and his whole family are prominent scientologists. Danny was raised a scientologist and inculcated with all their moral and ethical principles.
Scientology was heavily involved in trying to keep the information about the rapes quiet when they occured. They had their lawyers in the courtroom during the case, working together with Masterson’s lawyers. Scientologists filled the “Masterson team” in the audience during both trials.
They claim to champion “human rights” and have a front group set up using my daughter (Taryn) who is sent out to attend “Me Too” events and try to weasel her way into the “stand up for abused women” movement with a phony “Justice4Mom” slogan (on the completely made up basis that I physically assaulted her mother). Taryn and some of her handlers from Gold even attended a “Denim Day” event where they were confronted by two of the Masterson victims. You can read about this at Tony Ortega’s blog: VIDEO: Danny Masterson accusers face down Scientology ploy at Denim Day rally
Watch the video in this post where Taryn is confronted and squirms “I don’t know anything about Danny Masterson,” while she and her Gold film crew/minder make absolutely false claims about Paul Haggis.
They are boxed into a corner, having to admit they condemn anyone who abuses women.
So, where is the condemnation of Danny Masterson from Taryn now that he has been convicted? She is the poster child in their supposed campaign to protect women from abuse. Who should she be condemning louder than anyone, if not one of scientology’s most prominent members? Don’t you clean up your own house first?
Where is scientology and their social media trolls condemning Masterson — they are out in force passing judgment on those who are no longer scientologists because they testified when subpoena’d in a civil case…
What about an official statement from scientology? They manage to get out “statements” claiming what poor victims they are within hours of bad news hitting (a negative media story, a new lawsuit filed against them), but not a WORD about the conviction of one of their most prominent members.
Of course, it is obvious why they don’t want to comment:
- They are afraid of drawing more attention to this huge embarrassment
- They are even more afraid if they make any statement condemning Masterson, he will turn on them and spill the beans on exactly who in scientology knew what and when and how they engaged in a coordinated cover up effort to prevent the facts from coming out.
Scientology has something to say about everything — we await your official statement on Danny Masterson.
I’m not holding my breath.

It’s interesting to think that as I sit here comfortably, sipping coffee and eating a chocolate that I bought on a whim last night while shopping for my dinner, that (formerly) rich and (in)famous Danny Masterson is sitting in a 4′ by 8′ cell downtown.

This cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy are the direct results of the many coercive techniques employed by Scientology. And I believe it’s Jackson Morehead, who uses the analogy of the “handshake” with contrary facts that must be processed in order to recover from the brutal control tactics used to brainwash and trap it’s members. No legitimate church does these things, nor condones them.
Mike, massive respect to you for not allowing your circumstances to silence your voice! #TeamMike

Have your views changed over the years you have posted?
Mine have, but in recent years, my views have been guided by two things. I have wanted to eventually come to an elevator definition of Scientology which I can give in 30 seconds or less.
Two, I’ve begun to study Buddhism, and some of the meditation gains from that just make discussion of Scientology less important to me.
What do you think are your desires to even post? Posterity? Recording your changing views on Scientology?
And again, do you notice your views on Scientology changing? Simplifying? Etc?
I’ve of course read your posts every time I see them, “Cat Daddy”.
To me Scientology is just an overall false subject waste of people’s time and the sooner they draw out of it, the better. It’s “rubbish” as John Sweeney so clearly stated in his excellent this year’s interview with Tony Ortega.

I was a never in. Although Terril Parkf rom the UK tought because of some “knowlegde” of the subject.. Just got involved a bit via the Internet, I did end up meeting Terril Park from the Freezone though In Amsterdam as we talked before on the firs Ex-Scientology Messageboard. I alsoo posted om Why We Protest. My other Nick is AnonKat. I try a more humble aproach these days and may not always be understood. But that i am at peace with. Now that you are here, Have you ever heared of a Temy Knight? Terril gave me a 1972 edition green litte book “Scientology A New Slant On Life”, and her name is in it in pencil. He alsoo gave me a 1968 5th edition “Handbook For Preclears.”.
I was never in. I never believed and as kid watching Tom cruise on the news here in The Netherlands I NAÏVELY tought, why can’t Tom Cruise not pay for the poorer parishoners if they have difficulty not knowing yet it was a scam and not a church.
At my former work a collegue told me his fellow students and him once saved a friend from Scientology Amsterdam. They went as a group and stayed so long making a ruckes that eventally Scientology Amsterdam released their friend to them to not create a bigger stink. I never knew that 20/25 years before, about him and his friend who I have both met while being a student myself.

Thanks so much, and this explains why I for years enjoyed your posting, you were a never in, and you did learn of Scientology from someone who was “free” of the regulations of Scientology, Terrill who did know Scientology.
I don’t know the Scientologist you say had their name in the book you mention. (My own books I lost years ago, I wish I could get my “Tech Dictionary” back, the one that has my name it in, since I annotated my first edition “Tech Dictionary” with literally hundreds of notes in the margins all before today’s internet.)
Common sense by outsiders is so appreciated, over the decades, and reading those comments is so helpful, thanks again for your years of great observations.
When you get too deep into Scientology, your common sense shrinks, and it’s good to have real people remind you of it.

Dear loving person Chuck Beatty. I can not let you live in a lie. I learned of the Scientology Anonymous protest from a girl in Canberra Australia. I loved you from the first post I have seen of you. Terril Park did not inform me on Scientology, I crash coursed myself via Anonymous always having a critical eye of what is BS and what is actual. I have been the “Data miner”f or Why Wr Protest” and the “Old Ex Scientologist Board” just bringing up the old LRH Hubbard letters on kids and stuff. Terril Park was suprised I was and AnonKat on the old Ex-Scientology board and Cat Datty on Marty Rathbun’s blog. When he found out he wanted to meet me. And we have met on our search for Karin Spaink the journalist who exposed Scientology inner secrets in 1993 In The Netherlands (If you want to know about that google it or ask me). We had a nice little adventure in Amsterdam searching at the Newspaper offices on a Saturday. I asked at the main desk for us to meet Karin Spaink. She was in the hospital being threated for multiple Sclerosis. l Than we went to eat in Amsterdam and after that we tried to get a “Museum Pass”but it was too late. “The museam Pass would have let us in museums in Amsterdam after hours”(I TRIED MY SMOOTHEST WAY). Walking awat from the one museum Terril Park spottes a boat in The canal driven by a 10/11 year old girl so whem they docked he talked to her and said things like how she done so well given her age commaning that boat. Afte rwe couldn’t go to Musea there he asked me if he could sleep at my place in Groningen. So we went to my place in his car from Amsterdam to Groningen stopping along the way at a supermarket to get some french and belgian beers he loved. he slept at my place and after that we wenmt to the “Noordelijk Scheepvaart Museum”in Groningen. We had a good time, we alsoo ate at a PURE Indonesian restaurant because he asked me because he knew we had a colony once ther. We ordered and found the meal he wanted very expensive. I told him it was for two and on my advice we went “dutch” dividing the costs. I waved him out as his perfect sensible but god on ugly little asian car left for Belgium to target a belgian monestery wich onley sold beer betwwen a certain time period. Asl me more if you want Chuck Beatty. I have no perfect memory but it comes close. I always loved your posts on Marty’s blog because it seemed to soften him. Sincerely yours Cornelius Antonius Martens.

This whole thing reminds me of Mormonism and David Archuleta. Like the Osmonds, Archuleta was a darling of the Mormon Church and was promoted heavily by the church hierarchy. He even sang at several events at the LDS Conference Center. Then a few years ago he came out as bisexual and now the church wants nothing to do with him. I guess that’s the common denominator in cults: they don’t want anything that would sully their supposedly pure image.

Brilliant description of Scientology’s hypocrisy.
Hubbard’s regulations are the cause of Scientology’s hypocrisy.
Scientologists are left holding Hubbard’s bag of hypocrisy regulations.
Arthur C. Clarke was succinctly correct in his dismissal of Scientology.
He said, I paraphrase, Hubbard went nuts and caused a lot of others to go nuts.

Mike,
This is so well done, and exposes the hypocrisy of the Church and their policies. The Agents sent out to Fair Game you and your supporters are clearly unaware of how to handle cold hard facts. It’s heartbreaking to see your own daughter in the middle of this. Her humanity was scratched to the surface while facing real victims and I imagine her lies hit her heart as she described things you supposedly did I don’t know if any of it is true or not but I fully believe the Church has committed worse crimes to her personally and that has to be playing out in her mind while faced with these victims of the church. When someone spreads lies about you in front of a cell phone held by the victim of crimes committed by the church their lies are exposed, even in their mind.
I wish you nothing but the best and I hope one day she can see what she is doing and reach out to you as a daughter.
I wonder if she’s even heard the audio that John Sweeney recorded when they were attacking you? That had to have gone over like a lead balloon to Davie MissyBitch.

What is amazing is that even in the after events of everything that Scientology does it ploys out by these half cocked people who have NO clue about what the WOG world is viewing vs the closed minded view of them
Danny Masterson will always remain as somewhat of a “hero” in Scientology (although now without HIS money may drop a bit) because his family is SO involved and invested in Scientology that he could do no wrong (they pulled it in the victims wanted it is how Scientology looks at it)
This is similar to Claire Headley’s STEPFATHER being subpoenaed to be a witness for the Masterson case
Let’s send out all the lies that we can and HOPEFULLY someone will believe them eventually
As I said then the WOG world goes WTF are these idiots talking about?????
Blessings to you and your family Mike
Keep up the GREAT work

This is a rare occasion where I think David Miscavige is doing the best thing, from his perspective, which is not my own and one I definitely do not agree with.
He has the always attack never defend mindset. I now see this as deeply flawed and immature and frankly immoral. But it is his approach as it was Hubbard’s before him.
He will not admit to any flaws in his own conduct and that includes anything relating to Danny Masterson.
It is a sign of maturity to accept responsibility for your own actions and unfortunately that is not a part of Scientology technology or the character of Ronald Hubbard or Scientology leader David Miscavige.

I hope the cult punishes those around Masterson somehow. Of course soon they will be stalked by people who have relatives in a CA penitentiary. His relatives will be told “Give us money or people we know in the pen will beat the crap out of Danny. If you call the police we will kill him.” Sounds good to me!

One more crime piled upon countless others committed by David Miscavenge’s church of Scientology: …Brainwashing your daughter to attack her father and accuse him of vague generalities which she has never personally observed. The weight of this bad karma will soon catch up with these folks.
Also, I believe that your ex wife is guilty of child abuse for being an accessory to your daughter’s brain washing.

I think the COS may be faced for the first time with a Kobayashi Maru scenario: A deadly crisis that has no solution. I’ve thought about all of the responses they could take, and it looks to me like all of them would bring some kind of damaging consequences. And I don’t think that they’d be looking at a solution that offers the least amount of damage. If it were me, I might stay mum on the “Masterson incident” forever, never acknowledging that anything had ever happened—in effect “taking the Fifth” to avoid any possibility of self-incrimination. OSA PR could come up with some patter like, “I’m not prepared to discuss it at this time,” and leave it at that. Of course that would create a lot of scrutiny and suspicion, but the COS is used to that, having dealt with it since day one.

Taryn comes across as a very confused person.
Anyone who enlists her to act as a spokesperson for their cause has to be very stupid or have a very poor understanding of Public Relations.
I would think the clever thing to do would be to enlist Taryn to speak for the other side of this issue.
Aquamarine says
Taryn is a completely controlled being. Utterly programmed…a robot…Scientology would call it “other-determined”, meaning there’s nothing of her own beingness , nothing of HERSELF present in these public communications of hers except for her ever present fear of miscommunicating what Miscavige wants effectively communicated, and in the right tone, etc. I’m surprised that Tiny Fists has her out in public commenting at all, you know, with Masterson cooling his heels in jail awaiting sentencing. I’m actually amazed that he has her out there commenting on this subject at all. Huge error of PR judgement on his part I would think but of course any flaps will be her fault.

It is easy to toss rocks at others…. not so much to get them tossed at you in your glass house. I am sure the Sciobots are hoping it all goes away in a puff of smoke. I feel for Danny’s co-stars who will loose income from the reruns being pulled that he is/was in. Those that will be vanished just as much as he. I am sure the Sciobots will be there for him, his wife & entire family and excuse them from ever donating any more money to the “organization” since all those funds are needed to pay lawyers, appeal lawyers & commissary account. I am sure the Sciobots will look for who Danny is/was PTS too so they also can be vanished. I imagine his wife, if she has a good divorce lawyer, will file so she can save half of what ever is left. Circling the wagons will lead to bigger & bigger circles. In 6-months no one will even care that he was an actor or Scientologist. He will just be another number & another prisoner waiting for Saturday visitations…. that never come.

I was thinking of a way to find out who, and how often, has anyone visited the criminal Danny. His wife? His child? His mother? His buds? his auditor? His minister? His drug pimp? Anybody?
Maybe Danny can become pen pals with Rex Fowler.
PS: Mike, so good to have you in the game.
GL says
I reckon Danny is trying desperately to avoid going to the showers and running into Ben “Oops, I dropped my soap, can you pick it up for me.” Dover.
Aquamarine says
@ Jim rowles,
This is my assumption only because I have no actual information:
Very likely his family visit daily. Very likely there is always some family member with him during visiting hours. They probably bring him wonderful meals so that he doesn’t have to subsist on prison food.
Just as likely an OSA person or 2 visits constantly, reporting afterwards to Miscavige.. Possibly a Scientology auditor of two visit him. Possibly also any favortie staff or public from CC Int provided they’re willing to report everything he says to OSA. And his die hard still in cult friends, likely they visit him. After all, the cult has to ensure that he keeps his trap shut about what he knows while enduring the vicissitudes of life in an Los Angeles jail.
Again, my conjecture only.
jim rowles says
Aquamarine, and if your conjecture is true:
Would there be a factor of love and compassion in any of their hypothetical visits? Would it be an effort to keep Danny convinced he is still a better thetan than his prison mates, more up-stat, and ethical, than those in the degraded wog justice system? Would they be trying to convince him that this is just more prison-planet bullbait, and this is his opportunity to practice his TRs for 30+ years? Would they be telling him that: “They will never abandon a comrade in need”? Would they be telling him his family will become ethics bait and fair game if he ever speaks out against scientology? Will they be telling him that scientology has friends in all places, including the prison system, and can deliver ethics on him if he makes a ruckus?
On the world stage he is already a nonperson. After his appeal fails in 6 months or so he will be a nonperson in California, Hollywood, TV and screen circles. He will be a nonperson (disappeared) in scientology.
I’m feelin a sense that justice has been served. After his celebrity-ness has worn off in prison and he is released into the prison population he may find another level of justice.
Aquamarine says
@Jim Rowles,
This may sound like I’m fluffing you off with an easy quick answer, but I’ve read your comment carefully twice, and my firm conjecture would be a hearty “yes” to each question!
They are die hard Scientologists and are thinking on “ALL dynamics”. Love and compassion, sure. In particular I’d say his mother Carol is blind to his faults with that kind of blindly loyal and fierce mother love that refuses to see anything wrong with her child.
She carried him in her womb, gave birth to him, grew him to boyhood, adolescence, adulthood, yet she’ll always see him as the adorable little gurgling baby or small boy throwing his innocent arms around his mother…you get the picture. But – she is a die hard Scientologist (as are the rest of the Masterson klan and so she MUST “look from the viewpoints of every “dynamic”.
And you’re right, he is already a non-person on the world stage. However, I believe that she will NEVER abandon him; instead she will do everything she can (without becoming herself declared) to emotionally shelter him, for the rest of his life. Now, as for his siblings, I think they’ll detach from him emotionally over time.
Ditto his wife, that piece of work Bijou Phillips, who, if a bit of research is done, most certainly has her OWN “anger issues”.
But I think once Donkey Punch is officially no longer useful to the cult – a financially broke, non-celeb criminal in jail – indeed once any mention of his name publicly is anathema to Scientology I believe that it will only be a matter of time before the cult starts to work on the Mastersons to “move on”.
Why would CO$ do otherwise? Once he’s convicted and locked away for 10-15 years, ANYTHING he says against Scientology can be discounted as the ravings of an innocent being who “became” criminal IN JAIL.
The cult will take care of him after a fashion once he’s convicted, serving his sentence and staying quiet, but once he’s parked in jail if he ever opens his mouth with anything negative (read “truthful”) about Co$, if he can’t be “handled” he’ll be cut loose and his family (upon threat of “losing their eternity”) drop him, and he’ll be declared, and for all extents and purposes, truly a nothing on all dynamics.
Perhaps his mother MIGHT stick with him but in the end, my money is on the cult telling the Mastersons exactly, but exactly what do do as regards him, in every way.
My conjecture only.
jim rowles says
Agreed. Thanks. And it is full answer.
