Mike Westen forwarded it to me and gave me permission to republish it. Scientology and Human Rights February 8, 2024 For decades, scientologists have attempted to position themselves as credible human rights activists. Not a week goes by without a new self-congratulatory press release on their efforts to “make human rights a fact.” Front groups such as United for Human Rights, Youth for Human Rights and Foundation for a Slavery Free World extol the value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) without the slightest hint of irony. “They are just trying to help,” … [Read more...]
Where is Kurt Weiland, former CO OSA International?
Journalist Peter Reichelt has been searching for former CO OSA International, Kurt Weiland, for some time. Peter provided us with a first look at his latest reporting on the subject, which he kindly translated into for us. His persistence finally paid off: Kurt Weiland, missing since 2007, found alive after 16 years -- a story by the German journalist Peter Reichelt, in collaboration with ANA (Austrian News Agency) Part 1: Tony Ortega published the cover story on July 11, 2023: Former Scientology secret-service chief Kurt Weiland, who disappeared from public in … [Read more...]
Scientology’s Silence on Danny Masterson is Deafening
Scientology has constantly attacked Leah and I for testifying in the Paul Haggis civil case where he was accused of raping a woman. The plaintiff never reported it to law enforcement, instead sending a demand for payment in exchange for her silence. Paul was the one who reported this to law enforcement and was told there was nothing they could do about it. The jury didn't know all of this as it was precluded from the case. Leah and I testified about our knowledge of scientology's Fair Game tactics (including how other people like Paulette Cooper and Gabe Cazares had been framed for crimes … [Read more...]
Human Trafficking in Scientology
It’s ironic that Scientology tries to portray itself as fighting against human trafficking when they operate an international human trafficking enterprise. It is one of those things they do so often — present a face to the world that portrays the exact opposite of what they really are in order to deflect attention from their activities -- as in "how could a child abuser run a campaign against child abuse?" They say they’re about the spirit and not materialism. They assert they are pro-family. They proclaim they agree with Christianity. The greatest virtue is to love one’s enemies. The list g … [Read more...]
Scientology Human Rights — An Oxymoron Update
Following up on this piece, Scientology Human Rights -- An Oxymoron, Tampa Bay Times intrepid scientology reporter Tracey McManus managed to speak to a number of the people concerned as covered in the story above. It turns out that Hillsborough County Commissioner Harry Cohen was unaware of any scientology connection. Turns out people who read this blog contacted his office and he then found out about the link. “This isn’t what I thought it was,” Cohen said on Tuesday, confirming he dropped out of the event. “Scientology and a human rights summit, I don’t know they are compatible with one a … [Read more...]
Scientology Human Rights – An Oxymoron
Scientology attempts to position itself as defenders of Human Rights. They put out a constant flow of propaganda intended to create that image through their front groups, photo ops, slickly produced videos and booklet handouts. They try as often as possible to hitch their PR wagon to legitimate organizations and individuals as they are doing in this event. I wonder if Harry Cohen, Hillsborough County Commissioner has any idea what he is endorsing? Or Jeannette Matta or Rainey Nave for that matter.... And you have to question whether the Children's Board Board members have any idea … [Read more...]
The Hypocrisy of Scientology Knows No Bounds
Once again, scientology demonstrates "do as I say, not as I do" -- following the well-trod path of founder, L. Ron Hubbard. Here again we see the so-called "Stand League" (I prefer to call it by its true acronym, STAAD -- "scientologists taking action against discrimination") railing against anti-Semitism in one of their recent blog posts. This is their attempt to present themselves as champions of religious freedom and speech by taking a sure-to-gain-agreement stance that anti-Semitism is to be deplored. How brave. How noble. Old Martin Landon has really gone out on a limb … [Read more...]
David vs. Goliath
This is a wonderful profile on Professor Marci Hamilton, a real champion of human rights. Marci appeared on The Aftermath and helped us a great deal. Through this we came to find out about her amazing organization, Child USA. Both Leah and I are Ambassadors for Child USA and I accepted Marci's invitation to join the board. The work being done is helping victims across the United States. If you don't know about it, read the article, check out the website, follow on social media and participate in any way you can to supporting Child USA. It is making a difference for victims of ab … [Read more...]
Holocaust Remembrance Day
According to Scientology and CCHR, this is a day to "honor survivors of human rights abuse". That is verging on holocaust apologizing -- calling the mass murder of millions "human rights abuse" is like referring to the Titanic as a "boating accident." They are also going to "challenge" the predjudice [sic], discrimination and hatred in our own society today. Here is a tough question for you Dakota. Are you inviting the Freedom Medal Winner Tony Mo to your event? Oh, looks like he is busy doing a speech elsewhere -- including on the poster promoting his speech some of the most disgusting … [Read more...]
Pot. Kettle. Black.
The STAAD League continues to froth and rant about the strangest things. While they try to maintain a pretense that they care about anything OTHER than scientology's right to abuse people without censure, they fail routinely. Here is their latest "cause" -- my reference to Michael Chan as Chan Man in the Thursday Funnies. Apparently a rhyming nickname calling him a "Man" is a "racial slur," "bigotry" and even "homophobic"(?) and I should not be employed by anyone associated with Disney (the parent company of A&E). I am happy to know that Michael reads the Thursday Funnies (well, … [Read more...]
