Scientology Human Rights — An Oxymoron Update

July 21, 2021 By Mike Rinder 24 Comments

Following up on this piece, Scientology Human Rights -- An Oxymoron, Tampa Bay Times intrepid scientology reporter Tracey McManus managed to speak to a number of the people concerned as covered in the story above. It turns out that Hillsborough County Commissioner Harry Cohen was unaware of any scientology connection. Turns out people who read this blog contacted his office and he then found out about the link. “This isn’t what I thought it was,” Cohen said on Tuesday, confirming he dropped out of the event. “Scientology and a human rights summit, I don’t know they are compatible with one … [Read more...]

Scientology Human Rights – An Oxymoron

July 15, 2021 By Mike Rinder 19 Comments

Scientology attempts to position itself as defenders of Human Rights. They put out a constant flow of propaganda intended to create that image through their front groups, photo ops, slickly produced videos and booklet handouts. They try as often as possible to hitch their PR wagon to legitimate organizations and individuals as they are doing in this event. I wonder if Harry Cohen, Hillsborough County Commissioner has any idea what he is endorsing? Or Jeannette Matta or Rainey Nave for that matter.... And you have to question whether the Children's Board Board members have any idea … [Read more...]

The Hypocrisy of Scientology Knows No Bounds

August 13, 2020 By Mike Rinder 22 Comments

Once again, scientology demonstrates "do as I say, not as I do" -- following the well-trod path of founder, L. Ron Hubbard. Here again we see the so-called "Stand League" (I prefer to call it by its true acronym, STAAD -- "scientologists taking action against discrimination") railing against anti-Semitism in one of their recent blog posts. This is their attempt to present themselves as champions of religious freedom and speech by taking a sure-to-gain-agreement stance that anti-Semitism is to be deplored. How brave. How noble. Old Martin Landon has really gone out on a limb … [Read more...]

David vs. Goliath

June 24, 2020 By Mike Rinder 15 Comments

This is a wonderful profile on Professor Marci Hamilton, a real champion of human rights. Marci appeared on The Aftermath and helped us a great deal. Through this we came to find out about her amazing organization, Child USA.  Both Leah and I are Ambassadors for Child USA and I accepted Marci's invitation to join the board. The work being done is helping victims across the United States. If you don't know about it, read the article, check out the website, follow on social media and participate in any way you can to supporting Child USA. It is making a difference for victims of … [Read more...]

Holocaust Remembrance Day

January 7, 2019 By Mike Rinder 50 Comments

According to Scientology and CCHR, this is a day to "honor survivors of human rights abuse". That is verging on holocaust apologizing -- calling the mass murder of millions "human rights abuse" is like referring to the Titanic as a "boating accident." They are also going to "challenge" the predjudice [sic], discrimination and hatred in our own society today. Here is a tough question for you Dakota. Are you inviting the Freedom Medal Winner Tony Mo to your event? Oh, looks like he is busy doing a speech elsewhere -- including on the poster promoting his speech some of the most disgusting … [Read more...]

Pot. Kettle. Black.

September 8, 2018 By Mike Rinder 223 Comments

The STAAD League continues to froth and rant about the strangest things. While they try to maintain a pretense that they care about anything OTHER than scientology's right to abuse people without censure, they fail routinely. Here is their latest "cause" -- my reference to Michael Chan as Chan Man in the Thursday Funnies. Apparently a rhyming nickname calling him a "Man" is a "racial slur," "bigotry" and even "homophobic"(?) and I should not be employed by anyone associated with Disney (the parent company of A&E). I am happy to know that Michael reads the Thursday Funnies (well, … [Read more...]

Tampa Bay Charity Coalition

August 21, 2018 By Mike Rinder 116 Comments

Another front group trying to gain acceptance, the “Tampa Bay Charity Coalition" --  somehow they leave out the word scientology from their title. Their Facebook page features one of their events in the Ft Harrison ballroom -- though it looks like they photoshopped the "Flag" logo on the backdrop so it's not readable. This "Film Festival" is a thinly disguised excuse to show their "human rights" infomercials. You can see there is massive interest in this event...   You have to wonder what an "Official Selection" means? No doubt they “selected” the infomercials … [Read more...]

A Slavery Free World

March 14, 2017 By Mike Rinder 53 Comments

Do you think Marisol Nichols has a clue about human trafficking? I don't. If she did she would be briefing them on the changes the IAS has enforced at Gold to reduce human trafficking there.  After all, why not start at home? You don't need to go to Africa to find real human trafficking. To help Marisol identify human trafficking victims, here are some indicia that might be used: Holding someone's passport - especially when they come from a foreign country Restricting access to the outside world through physical means and by mental coercion Living and working in the same location -- … [Read more...]

Human Rights?

January 22, 2017 By Mike Rinder 84 Comments

In isolation this is certainly a worthwhile cause. In the context of it being another scientology front group, raising yet more money to restore human rights, it is horrible. If you read this it talks about villages in India being "enslaved" through "fabricated debt, intimidation, isolation and denied education." Anne, Donna and Vanessa, here's a clue: you don't need to look on the other side of the world. Anne, you especially HAVE been to the Gold Base in unincorporated Riverside County (not Hemet). If you care to LOOK, you will find: Fabricated debt -- your own … [Read more...]

Scientology: Human Rights Champions or Abusers?

February 15, 2016 By Mike Rinder 102 Comments

Scientology takes great pains to present itself to the world as a champion of human rights. Their tag line is "Making Human Rights A Global Reality." Look at their website - the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is prominently featured.  And their efforts to "ensure the human rights of everyone" are mentioned extensively. Same in Freedom magazine (when it is published -- seems to have dried up of late). Videos showing their wondrous human rights programs are routinely shown at Miscavige's Nuremberg Rally events.   Here is the Freedom magazine home … [Read more...]

Crazy L. Ron Hubbard's 1980 letter to Pres. Reagan explaining his plan for a national sales tax and abolishing the IRS. It was a key theme of #scientology's war on the IRS... until they got exemption. Do today's proponents know? Full letter in blog post.

@MikeRinder just finished reading your book. I've been anti-scientology for about 30 years. Your book was so informative as to the mindset and the bullying, gaslighting etc. Every through I watched the documentaries and listened to the podcast, I found this book so much (/2)
