More OT VIII Folly

October 1, 2018 By Mike Rinder 128 Comments

Here are a couple of “success” stories from recent OT VIII graduates. This is the top of the scientology bridge. The ultimate achievement of the tech (they say there are more OT levels and have been saying so since before Hubbard died in 1986 but nothing has ever materialized and nothing ever will).  These people have paid hundreds of thousands to achieve these amazing things at the pinnacle of the "Bridge to Total Freedom." The official scientology description of this level is "Truth Revealed" and the “ability gained” is: Handles the primary reason for amnesia on the whole … [Read more...]

OT VIII Crazy

December 31, 2017 By Mike Rinder 76 Comments

This is totally wacky. Susan Freilich is certainly entitled to express her "wins" any way she wishes. She can be cray-cray and as long as she doesn't hurt anyone, who really cares other than those who have to deal with her directly in the real world. Something like this has got to make you wonder -- hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands and thousands of hours to become (or remain - she might have been this way all along) so out of touch with reality. But the organization is another thing. THIS is the "success story" they choose to promote? Wow. It says a lot … [Read more...]

OT VIII Success

October 1, 2017 By Mike Rinder 254 Comments

When this is the best you have, scraping the barrel doesn't really describe it. After half a million dollars and years and years of sacrifice, the accomplishment seems to be more "I finally made it over the finish line" than anything tangible. It's all vague "I could say this, but it's not really that" and I am "naturally happy" or "I am OT"... blah blah All in all, a VERY unimpressive mandatory "success story" provided in order to be allowed to get off the Freewinds.  But this is the one they chose to send out as broad promotion? Maybe they don't HAVE any others? Either way, an … [Read more...]

OT VIII is Lame

March 21, 2017 By Mike Rinder 212 Comments

The OT VIII success stories circulated by the Freewinds are really lame. No wonder it's a ghost ship. Two of them were sent to me recently. And they are notable for what they DON'T say. They repeat, mantra-like, that OT VIII is "the first actual OT level" (funny, all those other ones used to be "actual" OT levels too) and the supposed  remedy for amnesia on the Whole Track. That is a very bold claim. Sort of like "exterior at will with full perceptions" which the L's are supposed to provide. One would imagine that someone who had gained the ability to recall everything on their Whole … [Read more...]

OT VIIIs: The Blind and Deaf

May 23, 2016 By Mike Rinder 166 Comments

Scientology is a study in contradictions. But it would seem even the most enlightened beings at the top of the bridge aren't able to perceive even the most obvious of them. Read this first message sent to OT VIIIs by the Senior C/S for their "next OT Levels." Put aside there is no such thing, which they have apparently not realized yet, I wonder if they recall the "success story" they wrote after they completed OT VIII about how they were now total cause over the universe and had the full meaning of life revealed... But hold on, these super beings who have completed the first of the … [Read more...]

More OT IX & X Nonsense

May 3, 2016 By Mike Rinder 175 Comments

This email, perhaps more clearly than anything I have seen demonstrates the insanity that pervades scientology's endless carrot dangling for "eternal spiritual freedom." When you have finally spent enough time and money to make your way through OT VIII "the first real OT level" -- you are now instructed that in order to continue to long-promised OT IX and X (which do not exist) you will have to start at the VERY bottom and repeat all that over again in order to be eligible to take the next step. The illogic of this is astonishing. The only reason to do the Student Hat, Purif and … [Read more...]

Cause Over Matter, Energy, Space, Time, Force, Form, Location and Life

September 16, 2015 By Mike Rinder 314 Comments

Nothing over the top here. And yet people will tell you that L. Ron Hubbard DIDN'T make absolute claims about OT and scientology doesnt make promises to achieve unrealistic things and that scientology doesn't falsely represent itself... Of course, there is always wiggle room - this statement means some "future" OT level is where it's going to be achieved -- even though those future OT levels don't exist. It was all supposed to be "OT VIII" and the release was delayed from 1970 because it was so powerful... But, nevertheless, this IS the pitch the church uses. It's why it is the quote … [Read more...]

Secret OTC Minutes

March 31, 2014 By Mike Rinder 85 Comments

Well, the hushmail stork keeps dropping OTC reports down the  chimney. I am having a hard time keeping up with them all. And I dont have a lot of time this morning to sift through and comment on each of them. But I am sure there are plenty of readers who will highlight the strangenesses from inside the bubble. I made a couple of brief notes from glancing at these.   Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2014 From: Flag OT Committee <depchair@flagotc.org>Subject: Message of the Week & 24 March 2014 Meeting Minutes Flag OT Committee Meeting Minutes24 March 2014 Kaye Champagne, Chairman … [Read more...]

OT IX & X Promises, Promises….

June 28, 2013 By Mike Rinder 61 Comments

A blast from the past. This is taken from a Source Mag sent out in late 1984. It serves to highlight the fact that the carrot is always dangled out ahead, and if the carrot gets too old and moldy, it is replaced by a new one. The goalposts are forever shifting. New OT VIII and IX being released on the "new ship" soon became just "OT VIII." Then it was OT IX and X packaged together as the new carrot and the requirement has changed over time. First it was "enough OT VIII completions", then it was 10,000 on Solo NOTs, then it was "All orgs SH Size" and now it's "All orgs Ideal."  None … [Read more...]

Another OT VIII Has Seen The Truth Revealed

May 22, 2012 By Mike Rinder Leave a Comment

This is the story of how Halina Cirillo fell in and out of love with the Church of Scientology. A bit of background about myself.  I was in Scientology for 40 years, on staff in Toronto through most of the 70s.   My original post was Director of Processing which I held for 3 years and was then recruited into the Guardian’s Office and held the post of  DG PR CAN.  As D of P I had 18 auditors in the HGC and our well done auditing hours at that time have never been matched since.  I left the GO in disgust in the late 70s after being shown confidential session data about my brother.  Then I … [Read more...]
