The election for the District Attorney of LA County is on "Super Tuesday" (tomorrow, 3 March). This is not something I would normally write about, but the actions of Jackie Lacey have concerned me for some time -- since I was first contacted by the victims of Danny Masterson. Leah and I have been personally involved trying to help these women get justice and have witnessed the frustration of Jackie Lacey sitting on the proposed prosecution of the crimes without rejecting or filing charges. Catch and Kill
I recently finished reading Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators by Ronan Farrow. It was an excellent, if horrifying read. Being familiar with the tactics scientology uses against victims of sexual abuse or "enemies" I didn't learn any new techniques or methods used by the unscrupulous to protect their crimes. Stand Double Standards
Not that this is big news... scientology is operating on a blatant double standard. I saw this on the STAAD twitter feed. Now of course, we could do an even better headline -- SCIENTOLOGY SUPPORTS ALLEGED RAPIST DANNY MASTERSON. The difference in the two cases is rather striking. The accuser of Haggis NEVER FILED a police complaint. In fact, the main accuser tried to get money from Paul Haggis to remain silent. HE went to law enforcement to report this. Scientology has come up with a new attack line -- the "Mike Rinder Problem." It is quite an honor to be singled out so specifically, especially as I am according to them merely a "bobblehead" (though a "wife-beating" one so that is apparently a bigger deal). They shifted their attacks from Nancy Dubuc to Paul Buccieri in a deft strategic move. Their clever PR maneuvers are a sight to behold. This New Yorker article is an extremely detailed and well-documented peek behind the curtain of a dirtbag with a lot of money hiring big-name, reputable lawyers and private investigators to conduct a concerted campaign to intimidate and silence victims of and witnesses to his abuse. Scientology has been doing this for years. Decades actually. They wrote the book, literally, on this sort of intimidation tactics.
