Episode 44: Tom Green County Sheriff Nick Hanna

June 7, 2021 By Mike Rinder 38 Comments

What an enormous pleasure it was to speak to the Sheriff of Tom Green County, Texas, Nick Hanna. He recounted the incredible story of his work (and that of many others) in discovering, investigating and prosecuting the criminal activities and abuses in a compound of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints on a ranch (the YFZ Ranch "Yearning For Zion") in the small town of Eldorado Texas in 2003. It is a perfect example of how law enforcement and the court system got it right with a religious organization abusing its members, especially children. A bit of background: Tom Green … [Read more...]

Scientology Tells Another Big Lie or Two

May 20, 2021 By Mike Rinder 82 Comments

The prosecution of Danny Masterson is becoming a predictable nightmare for David Miscavige and scientology. Forced into making a public statement after damaging testimony in the Preliminary Hearing, scientology resorted to its time-honored tradition and lied. Not just a little lie. A big, bold, easily disproven denial. They rely on the fact that most are uninformed about their actual practices, and that the vast majority of people think when someone makes such an emphatic statement, they could not possibly be lying. Sociopaths use the good nature of the vast majority of people who … [Read more...]

Episode 33: Media and Political Journalist Yashar Ali

March 22, 2021 By Mike Rinder 62 Comments

We are joined this week by media and politics reporter Yashar Ali.  Yashar has done over a dozen stories related to scientology and more are coming. He has been a long-term voice against scientology abuses who has never been scared off by their Fair Game tactics. Yashar was recently named one of Time magazine's 25 most influential people on the internet: You can follow Yashar on Twitter: @Yashar,  Instagram: yasharali and Facebook: Yashar Ali With his background in politics and the media we had a lot to talk about: Scientology celebrities and how the media fails to … [Read more...]

Episode 25: Valeska Guider Paris

January 25, 2021 By Mike Rinder 35 Comments

It was a great pleasure to welcome our old friend Valeska Guider Paris to the podcast. She has one of the more harrowing tales of life raised as a scientologist, being held prisoner on the Freewinds and losing her family to disconnection. Valeska is married to Chris Guider, former professional rugby league star in Australia. He was also the former "Inspector General MAA" assigned the task of enforcing the orders of Miscavige. They escaped from the RPF in Australia where they had both been sent to get them out of sight and out of mind. I will include the link here as soon as it's … [Read more...]

Sanity or Anarchy?

July 25, 2020 By Mike Rinder 40 Comments

Anyone who almost sheds a tear when studying Introduction to Scientology Ethics is either completely delusional or more likely has been abused with the application of this "tech" and the memories are so raw they bring tears. Let's take a look at some of the "incredibly sane" stuff in this book? For example, here are some of the specific "Crimes" and "High Crimes" that are listed. These are things for which you can be declared Suppressive: These are what passes for the most sane ethics and justice system ever invented. Don’t testify or use the court system or cooperate with … [Read more...]

Why Do Scientologists Lie?

June 29, 2020 By Mike Rinder 90 Comments

I originally posted a version of this in early 2017. I have updated it with additional information and quotes. It's important, especially in light of the ongoing prosecution of Danny Masterson, other investigations, and civil cases. Anyone who confronts scientology witnesses needs to understand the nature of the beast.    While repeatedly asserting that they are "the most ethical group on earth" and that they are constantly having to "get rid of" people who "cannot live up to their ethical standards," in truth, every dedicated scientologist is a liar. Why? The short answer: … [Read more...]

Child Sexual Abuse in Scientology

May 12, 2019 By Mike Rinder 98 Comments

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE RESPONDED TO THIS ARTICLE HERE, ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND IN PRIVATE MESSAGES AND EMAIL. BUT TELLING ME IS NOT WHAT IS IMPORTANT. REPORTING IT TO THE AUTHORITIES IS. LEAH AND I CANNOT REPORT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT THAT YOU TOLD US SOMETHING. IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY. IF YOU EXPERIENCED OR WITNESSED SOMETHING YOU BELIEVE TO BE A CRIME, YOU MUST REPORT IT. EVEN IF THAT AGENCY DOES NOTHING, THERE WILL BE AN OFFICIAL REPORT ON FILE. IF YOU THINK THE CRIME IS "TOO OLD" REPORT IT ANYWAY. LET THE LAW ENFORCEMENT/PROSECUTORS MAKE THAT DETERMINATION. UNLESS YOU ARE A LAWYER, YOU … [Read more...]

The Police and Scientology

April 30, 2019 By Mike Rinder 58 Comments

I tweeted about this on Saturday, addressed to the Commander of the N. Hollywood Division of the LAPD for sucking up to scientology. He is not the first. The convicted criminal former LA County Sheriff Lee Baca was a big scientology supporter -- appearing at numerous scientology events and even riding on the scientology float in the Hollywood Christmas parade. Cory Palka and others from Hollywood PD have been buddies with Celebrity Centre over the years, the Hollywood PD even had a kiosk installed in their Police Station to promote scientology front groups. What these … [Read more...]

Why Grand Juries

January 23, 2019 By Mike Rinder 70 Comments

I tweeted the other day that law enforcement needs to empanel Grand Juries to get the facts about scientology. More effective would be a raid to seize their files, but that is a much harder process especially when dealing with an organization that hides behind the cloak of religion. What is a Grand Jury and why would it be effective? A grand jury is a jury – a group of citizens – empowered by law to conduct legal proceedings and investigate potential criminal conduct, and determine whether criminal charges should be brought. A grand jury may subpoena physical evidence or a person to … [Read more...]

How Scientology Views Law Enforcement

January 15, 2019 By Mike Rinder 93 Comments

In the final chapter of Introduction to Scientology Ethics, L. Ron Hubbard distills a lot of his thoughts on the subject of Law Enforcement, the Judiciary and the handling of justice in society. There are many other places where he says similar things -- some of the confidential advices and OSA issues are even more explicit, calling FBI agents "cockroaches" among other things. Hubbard's fear of the government, FBI, law enforcement, DOJ, IRS etc being after him is apparent starting in the early 50's and descended into complete paranoia by the end of his life. Realize this passage is from a … [Read more...]
