I don't recall having mentioned the writings of L. Ron Hubbard concerning the coming apocalypse/destruction of society/end of civilization, and I don't think many others have either. But the good folks who churn out the promotion for Kansas City reminded me that this is part of the "scare" tactics Hubbard employed to motivate people to support his cause. In June we shot our series finale of The Aftermath, which will air in the next couple of weeks. A&E will announce the date soon. It will be our last show on A&E. I came across this Sea Org promotional piece from 1999. It was a time when there had not been the extensive exposure of abuses of children in scientology. And thus it reflects the true attitude of scientology -- not the carefully worded utterances that are put forth these days (scientology.org is the epitome of scientology propaganda and it is the lead for most public statements now). Join scientology Staff: No Pay but we “Offer Total Freedom”
This poster has few words but says an awful lot. The "notice" at the bottom is clearly a legal disclaimer put there by lawyers to protect scientology. Scientology in Australia got into trouble with the government for not paying staff and providing inadequate health care and other benefits afforded all workers in Australia. They asserted that everyone on staff is a "volunteer" and pretty much got away with it. The Face of the Freewinds: “A Wog”
For many years in the early 2000's, the "face" of the Freewinds was Carol Miles, the "Executive Officer"/"Public Officer." She was the face and voice (with a wonderfully genteel english accent) of Freewinds promotional videos. She narrated tours of the ship and appeared at the end of each Freewinds video with a pitch for people to come and partake in the Freewinds experience. The information below was provided by Aaron Smith-Levin, along with an interview video he did with Sam Crabtree. I knew both his parents in the Sea Org back in the day, his father Paul more than his mother Debbie, especially when he was the Cram Off RTC. The video is a long one, but fascinating.
